DVC full kitchen meal ideas?

We are staying at Ft Wilderness in January. First time in a cabin (last time I stayed at Ft. Wilderness was 1981! ). We are a family of 3 so we traditionally stay in a studio with no more than a coffee maker and a microwave. We always go to the grocery store to buy breakfast supplies, drinks and snacks but that’s generally it.

Now that we will have a full kitchen, we want to use it for a few of our dinners or “linners” to save some cash. Any good simple meals ideas?

We like to grill but probably wont since cooking with charcoal on vacation does not sound appealing. lol.

We’re staying there in March! I’m thinking that we’ll have stir-fry veggies and meats. Easy to cook. Although, I’m not sure we’ll have many meals there. Since we can’t do most rides, eating at WDW restaurants is why we go.

I tend to make more breakfasts than other meals. Easier and require less “stuff”. We use the kitchen for leftovers when it comes to other meals. Which is super great.

Depends on what you like. When we cook on vacation it is usually grilling. But I agree, charcoal is a pain.
Pasta dishes are nice and easy- think chicken parm, shimp scampi, meatball and sauce. I like sheet pan meals too (sausage, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, chopped 2 bite potatoes- but do what ever you like). Cheese steak sandwiches, hot roast beef and mashed potatoes. Are you driving by chance? If so, I would make casseroles in advance.

We are flying so no premade. There’s a local company that makes amazing frozen dishes. I actually thought about TSAs reaction if I brought a fully frozen lasagna in my carry on.

As long as it doesn’t “leak”. :joy: You could get a frozen one delivered with groceries. They aren’t THAT great though, lol.
You could also make pizzas, tacos or quesadillas. Meatball subs, Grilled cheese and soup, fancy sandwiches.

Frozen lasagna from the store and frozen pizzas are our go tos, along with breakfast items and snacks.

We did frozen hamburgers once and set off the smoke detector, so I don’t recommend them.

We get frozen brick oven cheese pizzas often. But I add a lot to them. Frozen lasagna is like fast food lasagna. Edible but nothing compared to homemade, lol.
I’d still take it over other frozen meals though.

I used ChatGPT to plan menus/groc lists based on appliances and food preferences. IT was GREAT

I am staying at the cabins in late February! I would love to hear your review of the kitchen after your trip. My trip includes DD26 (by then), her BF, DD23, and two of DD26’s friends. She is running the Princess 10K. DD26’s BF has celiacs disease and one of her friends is a (picky) vegetarian. But I think we may try to make something for dinner the night before the race. I am thinking of enchiladas with corn tortillas. Not suitable for the vegetarian, but gluten free for the BF, and one of DD26’s fave meals. It’s also a fairly easy meal to make and finish - as in eat the leftovers. But not sure if there is a casserole type baking dish in the kitchens. Is that standard in DVC?

Yes there is usually a glass pyrex dish! Might not be big enough for your needs though…

Is it rectangular - like 9x12? That should be fine. My goal is to not have lots of leftovers.

A search says “oblong 3-quart casserole". I can’t decide from memory if it’s just the 8x8 square or the 9x12. I think you could probably make it work.

It’s not square because it says oblong.

Depending on what kind of vegetarian the friend is (not vegan if you’re using cheese), you can always make a couple of bean enchiladas and toss them on the side of the casserole to cook. I’m a vegetarian (really just a picky eater that doesn’t like chicken, pork or beef) and and that’s what I do.

But I’m not a vegetarian for political, health or allergy reasons so results may vary…

That’s a great idea. I’ll have to see if she eats beans. Not gonna lie, she was driving me crazy when I took her and DD to WDW two years ago. She is a vegetarian who evidently doesn’t really like vegetables! None of the vegetarian options seemed to please her when we were in the parks. Which, granted, are not great. I think DLR has better options and that’s the park she’s used to since the girls went college in SoCal.

Since the end of the Magical Express, we’ve been renting cars and stopping for breakfast food- even in the studios. Tend not to eat bagels at home but carbs don’t count in Disney and they are easy to eat at rope drop! This trip, I think I’ll get pancake mix for a couple of lazy mornings.

Ooh! That makes it rough!

I would think the GF is harder to accommodate. Lets put it this way, the GF should be harder to accommodate.

True. Especially if the person is celiac; you have to be so careful with what you cook in a kitchen including what you cook it in. I eat GF and grain-free, but cross-contamination isn’t a big deal for me; peanuts and many tree nuts, yes.

Although, for vegetables, there usually is not a huge selection available. I got very, very sick of green beans and broccoli while at WDW. I was already sick of salads.

What does she eat? No snark, just genuinely curious.
