Disneyland to drop parkhopping restrictions later this year; Monsters, Inc. ride to stay open into 2027 | KTLA https://share.google/VosEAzvw6SRO1656L
My DD and I are so happy about this news!! We weren’t going to make it there this year but now there is hope we can say a true farewell to Monsters Inc! It’s her favorite dark ride of all time!!
This has me wondering. There were rumors (yeah, just rumors) that Monstropolis in HS was going to pilfer some things from the Monster’s Inc attaction at DL in order to save money. I don’t know if that was true…but for the sake of argument, let’s say it was…if Monsters is now staying into 2027, would this mean Monstropolis won’t need those components until then (which suggests a timeline that is more likely LATE 2027, into 2028), OR it means that they abandoned the idea, and are just building all new pieces for the new land.
I suspect the REAL implication is that the rumor was just wrong. ![]()
I love the fact that I’m deleting “Monsters Inc. closing” from my notes for my upcoming trip. Excellent news.
I love the idea of ending park hopping restrictions! One less thing to worry about. It would be nice to lose park reservations but I have no hope since at Disneyland those predate Covid (with the special Annual Pass they created in like 2018 whose name I can’t remember) and it’s just too useful with the local crowd being so rabid to get in (and numerous). Gotta stem the flow somehow.
Alicia Stella made a similar comment on Twitter. Someone noted that the real reason for the delay could be that they figured out they can keep the ride open longer while they prepare other parts of the site for Pandora, including the bus loop, and that even if they were going to move animatronics, they could do that very close to opening at HS so there’s no rush.
Regarding the lifting of park hopping restrictions, when is “later this year”? Any thoughts?
My family is visiting end of June into the first days of July. Any possibility, do we think, that the restriction will be lifted by then?
I would hope it will be lifted by then. But to be honest, my plans have never been particularly disrupted by not being able to hop till 11am. The biggest annoyance is when you change which park you want to start at and there are no reservations remaining.
So the big question for me is whether changing hopping restrictions that will essentially allow you to start at either park? Or maybe they will still make you at least tap into the first park. Right now, even if you have a park reservation for one park, you can enter the other first if it is after 11am.
I read what appeared to be an official article that we will still need to book our entry park and scan in. We can then hop. I assume this means we can book LLs in either park at any time. But does this mean we need to scan into our reserved park even if we arrive late in the day? That’s inconvenient compared to the 11:00 hop time.
Yeah good question. That would suck if this ends up worse than having 11am hopping. ![]()
Also, if I scan, exit, cross the esplanade to hop, all within the 2-10 minutes it would take to do all that, will it trigger an alert that I’m entering the gates too quickly (and in the past has required a lead to come over to resolve)? Or does the new facial recognition technology at the gates remove their previous concerns of people handing off their pass/ticket in the esplanade?
Like, I can’t imagine having the situation actually work well that way.
And then in that case, why should someone with a park hopper ever have to reserve a starting park? Like maybe reserve a day they want to use the park hopper but could start at either park & it would be just resort-wide.
Or just do away with most of the reservations. Like move to a model with good to go days (and maybe only require certain types of tickets/passes to make a reservation on those days).
Just anything to reduce the reservation requirements because I definitely would have changed how I did the parks with hopping before 11am.
