Disneyland and Universal FanFest - Rd. 2

OMG that is crazy! I hope it is all covered and better than it was when all is done.

So crazy! Glad no one was hurt.

Unbelievable! Glad you weren’t there or hurt. How stressful!

(Is anyone else gaming out what they would do if this happened to them while they were driving?)

Pretty easy actually. :man_facepalming: But panic is a real thing.

If your accelerator sticks, immediately shift to neutral, apply firm and steady pressure to the brakes, and pull over to a safe location. Do not turn off the engine while moving, as this disables power steering and braking, making the car harder to control. Once stopped, turn off the engine and call for assistance. [1, 2]

Def would throw it into neutral and try to apply emergency brake. But also…..wouldn’t drive with a boot. Pretty sure they tell you that.

Oh my goodness @darkmite2 ! This is insanity.

We are though, and you know it. You know this group

Ha ha yeah I think that person is in big trouble with their insurance and possibly the law.

But assuming something like this did happen (by some other means - like the mat getting stuck), it’s good to know what to do.

It is! I have USAA and so far I am being told everything will be replaced. :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

Me too! My house is across from a school. My street is the unoffical drop-off / pick-up zone. This person was there to pick-up their kid along with many other cars waiting. If they had done this 10 minutes later the street and sidewalks would’ve been filled with teens walking home.

Over & Over & Over!!!

This all took place in about 10 - 15 seconds or less. I’m sure they paniced and made everything worse.

This is what I hope I’d do. I probably wouldn’t know enough to put it into neutral first though.

I’m trying to get a copy of the police report to see what happened to them and their truck. I am trying to be forgiving, but I truly hope there is more punitive action than just a ticket!!

Hey! I FINALLY had time to do a review of Fanfest. I still don’t have time to do a full DLR TR, but have some thoughts already typed. I still want to add that DLR TR as I feel my experiences staying at hotels on Harbor and using a scooter at DLR would be helpful to some. I was so nervous about the scooter rental and usage.

I’d truly LOVE if everyone could go read the FanFest review! I’ve been so sad about my house. I’d love to have y’all read my VERY SHORT review and input! (I know I am having a “pity party” and looking for “likes” but I kinda need ‘em these days!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: )

I don’t doubt it! It is truly awful and deserve to have a pity party. I missed your TR and subsequent house event because I got overwhelmed so I’m just now catching up.

Hey!

First, THANK YOU to everyone for their support with my housing situation. The insurance recovery process has started. I filled with my homeowner’s insurance, USAA, and they are going to give me, basically, all new floors / appliances / fixtures / cabinets /new walls / repaint my home and provide housing / packing and moving services for all our stuff. I get a newly remodeled home, and I’ll get to sue for compensation. We are even going to “upgrade” and buy some long-term home improvment items that awe’ve always wanted. (Sadly, this will be a 3 – 6 months long process with no end date in sight.

Here’s what I want to REALLY talk about from my second ever trip to DLR.

#1 – Using a mobility scooter at DLR is easy. I was so worried about getting around the parks and boarding. They are so prepared and do it routinely that after the second ride we never worried about any of this again. DCA is even better as everything is ADA compliant, and you drive your scooter right up to loading at every attraction.

The only exception to this is Space Mt. = DO NOT EVEN TRY TO RIDE Space Mt. If you have mobility issues. The loading process is terrible, and they only have one vehicle to use. They will not launch that car or even load it until there are at least 8 – 10 waiting. We were there for an hour – with LIGHTHING LANE waiting to fill the vehicle.

I HIGHLY recommend Select Mobility Scooters, located inside the lobby of the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn. Nice staff, easy pick-up and drop-off and only $50 a day! You can pick up as early as 7am. If you want to drop the scooter off each night and get a new one each day you can. Or you can just plug it up at the hotel. We did this to avoid any RD delays in the morning and avoid any extra steps DD would take each morning at pick-up.

A fully charged scooter will run 10 – 12 hours and still be in the “green” zone of charge left. I forgot to charge it one night and started the day with only 75% charged. We were still able to go from 7am – 9pm and not run out of battery. (It was close though! If we hadn’t turned it off while waiting for “Paint the Night” we would have had to leave early.

#2 – The Tropicana is a good hotel. It’s no frills, but very clean and excellent service. Everyone was so nice. The beds were OK and there wasn’t any excessive noise from outside. Plus, the A/C is AMAZING! It’s one of the older units that sits under the window and extends outside. I was able to crank it down to 60°F. I slept fine every night. This is my second experience staying on Harbor Blvd. Noise has been my biggest concern. It has not been an issue at either Fairfield Inn or the Tropicana.

#3 – Paint the Night is my #2 favorite Disney parade. (MNSSHP - “Boo to You” is #1!)

#4 – I got to ride the Matterhorn this year for the very first time. It was closed for refurbishment in 2025. It’s as bumpy and rough as everyone says and I LOVE IT! I got an actual bruise on my right arm and laughed the whole time. I rode it twice and the left side is my favorite. (The queue is AWFUL, but I did it as a LL both times with both my and DD’s passes)

#5 – We had a an amazing “in character” CM for DD first ever ride on GotG. DDs favorite WDW ride is ToT. However, she had no idea GotG stated by being blasted straight up!! She screamed, knocked my glasses off my face and LOVED it. We rode it three times that day. (RD, LL and at before closing ) We didn’t watch WoC this trip in favor of getting that extra ride on GotG

#6 – As a lifelong WDW visitor, I do think I prefer DLR. WDW has so much to offer, but always feels like I’m trying to cram it all in while navigating a lot of logistical transportation between parks. If I do go to a Disney park again soon it will be DLR. (I’ll got to WDW once the new lands have been open for a year or two)

Finally,

Here’s everything we ate at DLR with my thoughts -

Tues. = Arrival at DL at 11am – 10pm

Fruit Cart = Pineapple Spear. Good value! DD wanted a fruit bowl, but it was all melon.

Little Red Wagon = Corn Dog. AWFUL! Cold, hard and even fresh, it would have been nothing special.

Jolly Holiday = Matterhorn Macaroon. Still my favorite DL treat! (I bought a second one on Thursday!)

Hot Dog from Cart – Better than Little Red Wagon corndogs. Nothing special, but at least “good”

Red Rose Tavern – Grey Stuff “70 Anniversary” version. My DD loathed this. She hates artificial raspberry flavor and that’s all this was. Plus, she made the mistake of trying to eat the cookie “plate.” I did that last year. It’s awful! When she had bites of plain Oreo flavor, she likes it. I didn’t hate the raspberry, but it would’ve preferred it “plain.”

(I feel like I ate something else, but I can’t remember and I don’t have pics. I do remember teasing DD, “All we’ve eaten today is SUGAR!! Can we PLEASE eat a meal??!!?? LOL!!)

Wed = DCA

Schmoozes = Mango smoothie that DD LOVED! She wants fruit often, especially in the mornings. I was so happy she liked it and finished it.

Mickey Waffles “70th Anniversary” style (frosting with sprinkles) - Premade and cold..Meh!

Pym’s Test Kitchen = Chicken Sandwich with tots. DD LOVED this too! It may have been her favorite item. She kept talking about the slaw nonstop.

Choco-Smash Bar – I still love it and DD did too! It’s too big though. We cut it in half and gave the other bit to the table next to us celebrating a birthday. Everyone enjoyed it!

Clarabell’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream – Frozen Banoffee Banana = OMG!! My new favorite thing!! It’s so refreshing, but chocolatey!

Carthy Circle Restaurant – The food lives up to the hype and prices. The service and cocktails do not. Our server was so nice, but INCREDIBLY slow and absent.

Prime Bone-In Short Ribs – Cucumber, Tomato, Crispy Yuca, Cuban Mojo Sauce.

They give you FOUR steaks!! It’s insane. She ate 3 and LOVED it. The Mojo sauce was what made them so good. The yucca was PERFECT!

Fish of the Day (Sea Bass) - Spicy Crab Fried Rice, Thai Basil-Coconut Nage.

I love Thai Basil flavors and the sauce was soooo good!!

Ernest’s Daiquiri – AWFUL!!!

Bacardi Superior Rum, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, fresh Lime and Grapefruit Juice, and Organic Agave Nectar, served up

Carthay Mai Tai – Medicore…at best.

Surfrider Rum, Luxardo Maraschino and Orgeat (Almond) Syrups, Pineapple and fresh Citrus Juices, tapped with Myer’s Original Dark Rum, garnished with an Orange Wedge and Luxardo Cherry

Thursday = DL

Jolly Holiday = Raspberry Macron. It lives up to the HYPE! It was sold out on Tuesday, so we bought one for breakfast on Thursday to ensure we got one! (Plus I got that second Matterhorn treat too!)

Tropical Hideaway – Super long line moved really fast! Dole Whip & Dole Float – Both good and needed as it was a hot day. I got the lumpia. They were hot and fresh and so good! I would go back to make a meal out of these with Bao and maybe Bengal BBQ skewers!

SW:GE – Blue Milk. I finally tried it at my daughter’s request. It’s “fine.” It is a “light and refreshing” slushie that in the heat is nice and cold. However, it’s not a flavor that was so delicious that I’ve ever feel compelled to try again.

OFF-SITE SPECIAL TRIP = Don Churro’s food truck

I found this last year, about 5 minutes’ drive from Harbor Blvd. They are the BEST churros anywhere and a MAJOR reason I came back to DLR!! We arrived 30 minutes before closing at 10:30pm. THEY HAD SOLD OUT!!! I was truly sad! I almost cried like a kid!! I’m even more sad DD didn’t get to try them!!

That’s everything Disney… I grabbed a rental car and drove to Burbank on Friday morning. We arrived at Universal Studios Hollywood and were in the park before 11am.

I would’ve loved to do a full TR but just didn’t have time. If anyone has any DLR or USH questions, I’ll try to answer them!

(My next trip, if possible, will be back to USH for HHN and the new F&F coaster!)

Interesting! Hemingway daiquiri is one of my favorite drinks (that’s what this is commonly known as). I don’t think I tried one at Carthay, though I did enjoy whatever I did get there.

So sad when you have your heart set on something and you go way out of your way to get it.

Both of our drinks really weren’t really good. The flavor profiles were things we like, but these both tasted “meh” at best. All the food was outstanding and I’d definitely go back. I’d skip the cocktails though.
