I know there are some folks who’d appreciate a DC report, so I thought I’d share my family’s itinerary from this past week. Feel free to ask me any questions!
This was a first time for our two DS (almost 11 and almost 8). We rented a VRBO about ten min away from the Capitol South metro stop, which made for a great location. In the past week, we managed to get to:
Monday:
-Air and Space Museum
-Union Station
-O Museum at the Mansion
Tuesday:
-The White House
-The Capitol
-Library of Congress
Wednesday:
-Spy Museum
-Jefferson Memorial
-FDR Memorial
-MLK Memorial
-Korean War Memorial
-Vietnam War Memorial
-Lincoln Memorial
-Ford’s Theater
Thursday:
-Arlington National Cemetery
-Mt. Vernon
Friday:
-National Museum of American History
-National Museum of African American History
-Washington Monument
Saturday:
-Holocaust Museum
-Planet Word
Sunday:
-National Cathedral, then home!
We walked everywhere— mostly 8-10 mile days— and took metros and sweated through countless clothes. We’ve sampled food from historic restaurants and tried fun cuisine: Greek, Ethiopian, Spanish (the original Jaleo FTW!)… and oysters, which was a first for the kids.
It’s been exhausting and fun, essentially in equal measure. My boys are neurodivergent, so they don’t really do “rest” like other people. This worked for us!
A lot of the above required advanced reservations and tickets, so there was a fair bit of planning involved. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
