Coronavirus Outbreak: Is it safe to travel?

My first thought when I read this was how perfect it would be in schools, airports, and Disney World.

Very interesting technology. I really hope to hear some more good news about it after it’s used significantly in Hong Kong.

It’s been a while since I have checked this thread. I’ve been trying to cut down on the Coronavirus news.
However…
Has anyone on this forum gotten the Coronavirus? If yes, do you remember your first symptoms?
I’m probably just a little paranoid, but today I woke up with extreme tiredness. Usually, i’m awake by like 10 minutes after getting out of bed. A switch just happens and i’m up. Today I am still half asleep. My mind is not sharp. I dropped the peanut butter when making toast this morning.
DH is out getting me some caffeine (I don’t usually have caffeine)…
I read that extreme tiredness can be the very first symptom. Now i’m a little worried… but trying to just focus on my work.

I have not not gone out and taken a test yet. I do not want to take them away from those that are currently in need of them, but I do believe I had it at the end of Feb/ beginning of March.

My symptoms were:
:+1: Tiredness ( not labored breathing, but did have to take extra deep breaths every once in a while)
:+1: Hot flashes
:+1: Head Cold
:+1: Persistent Cough
:+1: Influenza-like symptoms

Kept myself isolated for 14 days just to be sure.
When I had hot flashes, I took my temperature, but did not see a spike. Was a strange sickness that I do not recall having before.

You may want to get tested if you can. Can never be too cautious.

FYI - I lost access to FoxNews on my computer and iPad a few days ago. My free access was up. My iPad is so old that Hulu and YouTube TV and Spectrum aren’t options.

Then - on a fluke, I typed “white house life briefing” into the search engine.
Lo and behold whitehouse.gov airs them for free.

I need to see if I can find a NY option for Cuomo.

You and Shakespeare are neck-and-neck for most colorful insults.
Of his, the one I like the most is “May bugs, bats and beetles light upon you!”

Oh dear, I hope it’s something else. Keep us posted.

Especially if you can’t quarantine by yourself. Sounds like you live with family members.

@Shellott_hill, Yeah, those symptoms sound like Coronavirus for sure. So far I only have extreme tiredness. I will watch out for more symptoms and check my temperature if I start to feel warm.

@Pod, if I start to feel more symptoms, i’ll consider getting tested. Well, I guess I would call and see the hospital’s recommendation. I’m concerned about going into a hospital these days of course. I live in Grand Rapids, MI (Kent county)… so not exactly a low case count.
I do live with my husband and cat, but that is all, we don’t have kids. I’m guessing it would be too late for DH if I have it. We spend all day together.

I’ll keep you all posted.

I had very similar symptoms mid-March for 2 weeks. Sore throat, headache, dry cough, tiredness, felt like I needed to take deep breaths, also felt a little heart fluttering/high bpm when I’m usually a 65bpm resting rate girl. Did you feel ok during the day but very uncomfortable at night? That’s when I felt I couldn’t take a deep breath and felt like someone was sitting on my chest. But no fever. And all symptoms were mild (sore throat, headache, cough) but heart rate concerned me -my dr said could’ve been anxiety! She asked if I wanted to be tested. I didn’t want to take it away from anyone in need and was quarantining anyway. Now kinda wish I would’ve taken the test. I have never had a sickness quite like it, very weird.

Your description matches mine. Wasn’t necessarily only at night, it was a roller-coaster ride of symptoms.

Wow! I had that shortness of breath… like I couldn’t get a breath, but I knew I was able to breathe, because I was talking. I went to the hospital and talked to 3 doctors at my clinic subsequently. They all seemed to think it was anxiety (you don’t wake up gasping for air because you’re anxious. :frowning: ), or my asthma flaring up in a way it hasn’t done for more than 30 years.

Anyway, I changed from Claritin to a double dose of Reactine, started on Nasonex and a ventolin puffer. I only needed the naxonex and puffer for a couple of days, but I’m still on the Reactine. Also, I will take Advil cold and sinus (for the decongestant, which I think is Sudafed) at night if I can’t breathe when I lie down. Anyway, after about a month, I think my breathing is under control again. (Thank you, Jesus!)

I didn’t have more than a slightly elevated “fever”, which my doctor said is no fever at all, just the breathing, which meant I wasn’t sleeping, which meant I was exhausted.

I also don’t know if I had it, but it was a weird thing. Also, just to add, I’ve been dizzy for a month and a half, which I don’t see on the symptom list, but it’s really annoying.

@lindsayvrsmith - Maybe give it another day and see how you feel. Anyone can have a bad night and if you are anxious, there’s a chance that is causing your tiredness today. Also, I think cats can get it (no word on if they can pass it on, though), so if you decide to quarantine, remember your fur-baby is also susceptible.

One more thing, when I went to the hospital, the doctor reminded me that most people don’t have to be hospitalized. So don’t panic, if you find out you are feeling more symptoms. Call your doctor and follow their recommendations.

Sending prayers/good thoughts your way.

Yeah, I agree, I could wake up tomorrow and feel fine. I don’t normally have anxiety, but we are all extra-stressed these days, so who knows.
Yup, I have read that it is possible for cats and dogs to get it. The last thing I would want to do would be to give it to little Rocket. I’m not sure how i’d avoid her entirely as she loves to be near me, but I could at least constantly wash my hands. (I’ll start now!)

Sorry you’ve been dealing with such horrible symptoms for a month! I am glad you are feeling better!

I may have had it in January, but don’t know for sure. The extreme tiredness I had with whatever virus I had, had a fever and body aches with it. The cough came after the fever disappeared.

My mind hasn’t been sharp in weeks. Staying home seems to be affecting my cognitive abilities. I easily lose my train of thought and I drop things quite easily. When I have gone out for walks at some local parks it seems to help.

I have concerns regarding how much longer people will comply with the shut-down orders. My DSis’s town in Nevada is in open rebellion with many small shops opening up.

I believe they are part of the alliance with California, and it’s not looking so cohesive in that state, either. I hope that Gov. Newsom has a plan to get ahead of this. It would be better to open up too soon with some type of organization, than to have the whole thing fall apart or have to call out the National Guard to enforce it. Or have a huge spike after every starts going out en masse after the lockdown ends, as they. mention here:

My DH has already heard about small business working “under the table” around here. As in doing things for family and friends from the business. Also, some of them were not supposed to even being in their buildings, but some have gone anyway after hearing reports that people were breaking in and stealing things out of the businesses.

And strangely, our governor has decided marinas, private campgrounds and golf courses can open before our stay at home order is up. He says it is for mental health. I don’t do any of those things (unless mini golf courses are included). If we are supposed to stay home why are you opening those activities up? My guess is people are doing it anyway before he gave permission.

My mind has been normal until today. I play a lot of video games and go running outside a few times a week, which might help. But still it’s possible my mind could just be “feelin it” today…

I work at home M-F and we take walks in our neighborhood when it’s not raining. But my mind still feels inactive. I’m not a person who likes to sit in my house week after week.

It is definitely challenging. I’m the type of person that loves to stay in and just play video games or watch tv/movies. But the staying at home is starting to weigh on me a little as well. I miss going to the movie theater. I fear I won’t be able to horseback ride this year. When I am not working, I am focusing on my new running hobby, as it does feel great to make progress and I feel healthier too. Maybe a new hobby or thing to learn could be helpful for you too?

I think it’s possible I had it in early March. Very similar symptoms to yours. Slight fever, some chills, sore throat, bad headaches.

I was also tired, but then I always am. And I was coming off a very stressful time with lots going on. I was definitely also dehydrated.

I even started taking Sudafed, assuming I was getting a cold. I only took one dose. After abut 3 days, all the symptoms subsided.

I’m a devotee of Sudafed (the behind the pharmacy counter kind). it’s the only thing that makes having a cold remotely manageable. Luckily I don’t have any conditions that would preclude the use of pseudoephedrine.

Definitely. I have had work done by sole proprietors, at their own shop. Other things done for regular customers. They’re careful and so am I, so it works out. I think individuals aren’t bad at assessing risk for themselves once they know what they’re looking for. Responsible people will behave responsibly, and those are the kinds of people I interact with for the most part.

Here’s something interesting- Japan is doing better than was forecast, without shutdowns for the most part. I think it holds hope for us as we open up. Also, maybe evidence for seasonality? (link for non-subscribers after the main link) :

I hope so, too.

In the Bay Area, we’ve just finished our 6th week of sheltering in place. We started on March 17th. Our local health officials yesterday extended that shelter in place mandate through the end of May. We have stayed at home to flatten the curve and not overwhelm our hospitals. We have achieved both goals in in the Bay Area. Yes, the number of cases and the number of deaths continue to climb daily. They have never stopped climbing. But those were not part of the original goals. Without mass testing, the number of new cases is meaningless.

We are obviously not going to get herd immunity or a vaccine by the end of May. What have health care officials and politicians done in 6 weeks to help us move forward? I know these are not easy questions. Perhaps that is one of the reason we are battling lockdown fatigue and mourning the lost of our American freedom to come and go as we wish. We cannot shelter in place indefinitely. We have to live our lives. We have not secured more PPE for our health care workers. We have no tentative plans for phased opening. We have no tentative plans to resume some new normality. People are in open rebellion as the season has shifted suddenly to summer.

I feel a rebellion from within me this morning to go wander the aisles at my local Target.

I haven’t read article yet but I’m laughing at this:

“Tokyo reported its lowest daily level of new coronavirus cases…with limited testing”
