I think you meant, “Anything but the front row if you’re afraid of dying!” My fear of heights prevents me from riding that one in the front!
Overall, Valravn is “fun”, but nothing special. I feel like Gatekeeper has a similar ride feel, but is more fun overall (except for those stupid vest restraints…ugh! Hate those).
It’s only good in the front row… anywhere else it’s just a regular coaster. Gatekeeper is very uncomfortable for larger chested ladies because of those restraints. There’s a dynamic where things just shift going into an inversion and the restraint gets tighter, but then things try to shift back after the inversion and they can’t and it’s hard to breathe after that. I have to keep my fists under the restraint the whole time.
Also, something is on fire there. Nobody in my groups has figured out exactly what it is yet.
I actually do this as well for the same reasons (except for the lady parts). I get seriously claustrophobic in those things! Fortunately, once the train stops you can (with effort) pull the restraints back out a little bit to make breathing easier. It is a shame because it is otherwise a great ride!
My wife used to not like tall coasters. First time on Diamondback she hated it, and said she would never ride Millennium Force. Ever.
But at King’s Island last time, she decided to try Diamondback again…and ended up loving it. Then she decided to try Orion. And loved it. Went on it multiple times. She now says she is ready to try MF, knowing Orion’s drop is almost the same height.
Point is…never say never. My wife also used to say she would never ride ToT, but now it is a must do everytime.
Millennium Force? It’s really very good… very smooth, and it’s not launched but the lift hill uses an elevator cable system so you’re at the top so fast that you don’t have any time to dwell on the height.
Make sure you ride Skyhawk, which is next to Mine Ride. In fact, skip Mine Ride and do Skyhawk! (To be fair…Mine Ride is the first coaster I ever rode.)
