Buying an AP but not activating

If I buy an AP but have NO idea when I will activate it, how does that work? Do I get emails/letters telling me about AP specials? Could I book a room at AP rate if I don’t activate the AP until I get there? Can I go ahead and make FPP even though the ticket’s not yet active?

You link the voucher into your MDE account and then you can plan FPs for the next 30 days if you do not have a resort reservation, or 60 days if you do.

They do not send you emails but you can log onto the passholder section of MDE and see resort specials and any other passholder specials. You also get the AP discount in the Shop Disney App.
