Boulder Ridge 2BR - Dedicated vs Lock-Off

On David’s, it says that some BRV 2BRs are lock-offs and that if you want a lock-off, you have to specify when making your rental request.

I do NOT want a lock-off – I want a dedicated 2BR.

When I booked through DVC using my points, my room is merely mentioned as a “2 Bedroom Villa - Resort View.” This seems to be the only category, so I’m not sure how one would get a lock-off or not.

Anyone have first-hand knowledge on this? Or any similar experience from another resort?

TIA

Generally, lockoff will be designated on the official room type in MDE. Now the rental sites usually don’t differentiate, because the same resort, same view on the same dates are almost always the same number of points. But, generally, lockoffs are harder to book because the studios usually get snagged up on their own really fast.

Boulder Ridge does have both dedicated and lock-off 2-bedroom villas.

And David’s are correct, you have to specify which you want, since they are different booking categories…

A lock-off will always say so in MDE, so if yours says just “2-bed” it’s a dedicated.

Also worth knowing that not all resorts have both types. But where there are both, when booking direct through Disney it will (nearly always *) be a dedicated.

  • because there’s bound to be an exception somewhere, and I’m pretty sure I got that pointed out to me before.

Thanks!!

Now that I think about it, this makes sense since I was booking at 7 months, the lock-offs (which require a studio) were all gone, whereas the dedicated 2BRs were still available.

Curious — why would someone prefer a lock-off if given the option (as through a rental)? Seems less desirable due to two actual beds vs one being a Murphy or pull-out / down.

Oh now I’m seeing that there is a single pull down in the lock-off so the occupancy is one higher. Any other benefits? Do people like having the kitchenette in the studio?

Some do. If it’s 2 separate families, say you, your DW and your kids, and then you’re with a family with just 1 kid, then a lockoff would be good for the smaller family, so they can have some privacy and their own door in and out when needed.

Also a family with teens who can come and go without disturbing people sleeping in the living room.

We stayed at BRV last year in a 2 bedroom dedicated room. We don’t really like the lock-offs because we’re a family sharing all the space and like the 2 regular beds. Randomly my kids loved the game table in the room in the BRV lobby area. See pictures. We also loved that the BRV pool had free cabanas that you don’t need to rent. We were at the pool a few different times and didn’t have any issues getting one.

OMG my kids are going to love this! . . . .If I let them find out it exists.

Every time we were coming or going they wanted to stop at the game table for a minute LOL so if you’re in a hurry to get out, don’t show it to them.

Ok while I’m asking questions, I have a vague memory of someone saying it is difficult to drive into and out of Wilderness Lodge due to a left-turn lane somewhere. Am I remembering correctly? @heathernoel your name is coming to mind.

Yes and no. If you exit by Wilderness road it is almost impossible to take a left turn. This is how Google always took us. If you exit Timberline, there is a light and you will be just fine.

Thanks! When I looked it up on Google Maps this is what I was guessing you would say. Glad I remembered correctly!

Wouldn’t the studio of a lock-off have a thermostat that operates independently of the 1-bedroom component? That would be a plus for some.

Two parties of adults who are traveling together but may want their own entrance and coffee setup, etc. Offers a little more privacy and separation when desired. Wouldn’t apply to a Jeffahhhhhz family situation

I don’t recall this from our stay
