I’m fairly confident that this will be okay to do, but just wanted to get confirmation. It is a bit of a complex scenario.
My wife and I were planning out our next few years of trips to ensure we are using our points effectively. (We have contracts at BWV, and SSR, but BWV is a December use year, while SSR is June.)
Anyhow, for a potential trip in November/December 2028, we would prefer to stay entirely at BWV. This will involve:
Using 50 pts banked from the 26 UY into the 27 UY. Since these would expire in December 2028, we would use these points to book November 29 and November 30.
Using a handful of points from our 27 UY to add to the 50 pts mentioned above.
Banking the remainder of our 27 UY points into our 28 UY and then booking a full 6 more days.
Apart from making sure we bank the 50 pts from 26 UY into the 27UY, I think the rest of it should “manage itself” at the time we book the trip in December of 2027, correct? Am I missing anything?
Yep. Just a few days ago, found a 40 pt contract with a December use year. I made an offer and it was accepted. Deposit paid. Now just waiting for the process to run it’s course.
I do not think you can book across that UY boundary. I am tagging @Nicky_S for insight in this.
Plus, you are using some points that could not be used to book in November, and some points that cannot be used in December? How would one reservation work? I have read that you might be able to get MS to link the two together after booking.
Sure…but the Number of points needed for the two nights in November is, I think, something like 58 points. I have 50 points banked that are valid for November 2028, so then I would need 8 additional points, which I can just use from the 90 pts I have in the 2027 use year. That leaves 82 pts, which would be banked into the 2028 UY.
But…it is good to know I have to book it as two stays. After the fact, I will call and have them merge them if need be only for the purposes of making sure we end up booked in the same room!!!
You are looking at this as if when you book a multi day stay, you allocate points for each night and not that you are using a pool of eligible points. I don’t know if Disney would agree.
I see. So, in practice, on December 29, 2027, I book November 29 & 30 using the 50 + 8 points. Then, I immediately bank the remainder of the points, and on January 1, 2028, book December 1 through 6.
Well now I am glad I got February use year. I’m sure someday I will book an end of February trip when this will come up, but for the foreseeable future, I don’t envision using points in that timeframe. Most of our trips are summer, October, or Christmas. (That’s why I chose February use year. Past me was smart. )
Actually, generally this wouldn’t be a problem, and in our original plan, we didn’t intend to arrive in November. But what happened is when we were looking at our planned trips for May 2027, and January 2028, we decided to try to keep them, as much as possible, at the same resort instead of doing a split stay. We can do this, but it meant having leftover 50 points at BWV that will end up banked into 2027 UY. So, we figured if we just back up this trip two days, we can use those points without resorting to a split stay in, say, January 2028.
This whole mess happened because we decided to add 40 extra points. Pesky little points!!!
Oh I get it. So by crossing the boundary you are actually being wise.
Since you can book at 11 months, booking as two transactions shouldn’t be an issue, hopefully. Unless you are booking a high-demand room type. But just in case, you could book the first one, then call MS and have them extend into your next use year for the additional days. That will give you a two-day headstart on other owners, at least.
I assumed @ryan that you are booking a 1 bedroom? If not, this year there were no studios from December 1-10 or so (days in advance). If it is a studio definitely try @Jeff_AZ ’s plan.
This is complicated. Personally- I would not book this on my own. I would get MS on the phone and have them advise, assist and book. I have been a member since 2018 and made a mistake that was expensive because I misunderstood. MS were great in helping me.
