Hi
DVC framily!
We are staying at BLT for the first time in March. (We have stayed in the Contemporary before we were DVC members.) We’ve also never been to the Top of the World Lounge. Tell me everything I need to know.
Are you planning on going to the paid event or just trying to go up and watch fireworks?
We won’t do the paid event, but we definitely want to visit. Fireworks viewing would be cool. Mostly my husband “loves a good lounge” (his words, not mine
)
When is your trip? The Wicked Wind Down begins 30 minutes before fireworks (at least that is what the website states). Those tables will be reserved. If you want to sit in the lounge, some nights it might be easier after fireworks.
We are there March 15-21. That’s a good idea to wait until it’s over. My mom will be with us, so she can stay with the kids and I can take DH to get his lounge fix.
In my experience, I always assume there will be a wait list for DVC lounges, so I might keep that in mind. I’ve attempted Top of the World Twice. First time, we tried to stop by around may 10 pm (well after fireworks) on our way back to our room at CR. There was a wait list, so we just gave up. The next time, I booked the Wind Down. No wait list for that obviously, and we had a nice time. Not sure I would do it again, though. It’s lovely up there. I don’t think the vantage point for fireworks is awesome, however.
I am thinking we might like to try this for our trip 4/25 - 5/2, but not sure I want to book the Wind Down. We do have MMB. Any experience with how likely it is to get in without the reservation? For the Wind Down, do you get to choose the appetizer and dessert from a menu or is it the same thing for everyone? (Maybe it’s already booked up…)
I know there are mixed reviews but we enjoyed the wind down. You get to pick one app (we did a mix to share), one alcoholic drink, and one 7 layer cake per person. It is a prepay.

Thank you!
If we stay at MK and watch the Starlight Parade from the very front of the park, how likely is it that we will be able to get into TotWL to watch fireworks from the deck without a reservation? We did purchase MMB. Family does not want to reserve a table for the Wind Down.
I believe MMB has no impact on getting into TotWL. I also believe they let a lot of people up fairly quickly onto the decks to watch the fireworks, though I have never done that as a “standby” guest. I did purchase the ticketed, reserved Wicked Wind Down once, so I can tell you they keep a separate part of the outdoor deck space for reserved guests. I don’t think it was a better space, just an uncrowded one. Watching the fireworks up there was pretty nice, but the perspective isn’t great, IMHO.
