Best wines to carry on board?

I made a mistake on my July cruise: I ordered some sparkling wine for the room, which was WAY too expensive and which I ended up mostly dumping because it went flat. So this time I’m planning to bring my allotment of one bottle per person for in-room pre-gaming (before dinner, without food). Looking for some recommendations for very good screw-tops that I won’t have to worry about a) availability b) uncorking c) re-corking for storage d) too tart to enjoy without food e) decent enough quality that I won’t hate myself for bringing them all that way.

That will also give me a couple nice spaces in the home-bound luggage that I can fill with souvenirs.

No, I’m not bringing them to the dining room for their ridic $28 corking fee.

They possibly may be drunk out of an well-cleaned insulated coffee mug, because I’m fancy that way. (Yes, I know I can request wine glasses in my cabin).

AI made these suggestions of SCREW-TOP whites - also looking for other ideas? Reds?

Same exercise, screw-top red wines to be kept in cabin fridge, drinkable without food:

I like both Oyster Bay and Kim Crawford. I will likely carry on a Kim Crawford for our cruise in October!

Good enough recommendation for me! Our local shops are quite lacking, but I need to go browse a few and test-drink a few to see if they’re worth carrying across the country in a suitcase just to save twenty bucks on a $10,000 cruise  Well, maybe fifty bucks, if I’m comparing to the in-room wine selection! No concierge for us, we’re roughing it.

I feel like I end up preferring cocktails on cruises so I don’t go too nuts on bringing wine.

That Apothic Red Blend is my go-to red twist off. Conscious Pinot Noir By Samuel Robert Winery is also a twist off from Oregon. I get it at Total Wine and I like it more than the other two AI Pinot noir recommendations, but that’s just me. Have fun!

Yeah, one bottle per person and none from any port doesn’t let you go too crazy, but I suppose that’s the point.

I usually have one glass of wine at dinner and occasionally a fruity cocktail on deck or at the private islands, but I was just thinking that would add up on a 14-night cruise!

SAME!!! I like both of their Sauvignon Blancs.

This is what I bought today, 1 to drink now and 2 to bring on my cruise. Decisions!!!

Erath Pinot Noir $19

Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc $13

Oyster Bay Sauv Blanc $15

Shouldn’t this be a drink 3 “now” so that you can choose one for the cruise?

Good point!

It looks like the retail price per bottle is about the same as the onboard price per glass. I think I’ll be enjoying these out of my insulated cruise cups on board, until I run out.

Those 2 bottles will ensure some extra space in my luggage for the trip home.
