Best Tips for Lots of Rainy Park Days

Hi all! Predictions are showing heavy rain predicted for most of my upcoming trip, and I’ve never been when anything more than an occasional thunderstorm is expected. I truly have no idea how to prepare for constant rain.

I’m considering buying a ultra-lite rain suit because wearing a cheap poncho for 3 days solid sounds terrible to me, and of course, I will bring extra shoes. Would you recommend an umbrella also so that I’d have a least momentary relief from being pelted by rain? Would love any and all tips from folks that have experienced a super rainy trip.

I do a very similar thing. I wear outdoor track pants / track suit that are water resistant. I do like to have an umbrella even if I have a poncho, hoodie or other top.

As you’ve stated bring extra shoes, even multiple pairs, are a must. I go to Wal-Mart and get $15 sneakers that are comfortable, but not high quality. I throw each pair away by the end of the trip. I will use a hair dryer to see if I can get more than one day of use out of them,

I’m sure you already know the rest… plan for more indoor rides than outdoor things like SDD, Everest and rides like those.

This might be the trip where you finally go see the shows that are lower tiered attractions like Country Bears, The American Adventure and etc… if you’ve skipped them before.

My best advice is to make the most of it. You’ll be soggy while at WDW, but that’s still got to be better than a day a work!

People recommend throw away ponchos. I didn’t like them. I like the thicker ones and bought some Disney ones from Publix near WDW for $5. They come in different sizes. I like using them. They stay on better, don’t tear, the hood stays on, and don’t stick to my skin! I have a plastic bag to put the wet poncho in before I stuff it in my back pack.

I hate wet shoes and socks!:face_with_diagonal_mouth: I wear supportive hiking sandals.

I use an umbrella when it’s not super windy!

If it’s thundering, I will be hiding in a corner of a shop!

Unfortunately, Disney will close some outdoor rides and some shows will be canceled. But the upsides of rain are that it will thin the crowd and be cooler with the cloud cover!

I’ll be there starting this weekend, too!:grimacing:

Enjoy the puddles!

Will you be traveling alone? If so, things will be easier in those conditions. Brand recommendations are: The North Face - for wind and rain. No umbrella needed. Vessie brand for waterproof/slip resistant shoes. (Or, Skechers and Redwings for style/selection.)
I experienced a 90%, torrential downpour trip to WDW last November. My advice is to push forward despite the rain. The reason I suggest brand names is a trip I took after that to rainy northern Europe. I kept thinking how much I could have used those brands/products on that dismal weather Disney trip. And in my opinion, a poncho doesn’t even come close to a quality rain resistant jacket,

Personally, I’m not a fan of umbrellas in most cases. I prefer my hands to be free

This is the rain jacket I have. I don’t have any complaints.

I prefer Crocs as my everyday park shoes. I just ditch socks when it rains.

We just went in September with several very rainy days. I bought a $23 SaphiRose poncho off Amazon that zips up the front for easier taking on and off. Loved it! It is wider and longer than others and the lose poncho keeps you from sweating in the humid heat so better than jacket. Best thing we did was buy $14 silicone rain shoe covers off Amazon - you put them on over tennis shoe, zip them up and tighten them around your ankle. Mine were from seller Yueya. They were awesome! Everyone was envious of my dry tennis shoes. We did wear Sketcher sandals some rainy days which were great but not as comfy as our sketcher tennis shoes with silicone rain covers. Additionally, I bought a Lavieair Shoe Dryer off Amazon. The few times my son didn’t take his rain shoe covers, it dried his tennis shoes overnight. It does take up a lot of room in the suitcase which is hard if flying. I also took a kitchen trash bag to carry in my fanny pack/backpack to keep my shoes dry on water rides which worked great without having to put my silicone shoe covers one. Also, take moleskin and put it on your foot at any sign of a tender spot to prevent it becoming a blister.

My son prefered a small travel size umbrella over the poncho. I liked using both when convenient but I just used the poncho if too crowded (would poke people) and if blocking others at firework show, etc.
