I was looking for very nearly the same thing except no laptop and not exceeding 18" in largest dimension.
I have used for the last 11 years a hardside spinner that is less than 20" including the wheels that I bought at DL. The size is handy for how much I can pack and I kinda like spinners tho the handle fully extended is a little tall but hardshell is horrible for stuffing in that last minute thing.
I went with this for my July trip, which is not a spinner and actually easier for me to manage. There is no dedicated laptop section. I did get clothes, shoes, and toiletries for a long weekend in this bag. I also carried a personal shoulder bag that would have accepted a laptop. I put that on to of the roller bag to go thru the airport.
Isn’t the Samsonite one taller than wide? It’s within your parameters - possibly depending on the wheels.
The one I have looks less squat in person, tho it is short. It would fit under a seat.
My Disney hardshell spinner would classify as carry on since it’s less than 20 including wheels.
I saw some giant bags on the July flight purporting to be carry-on.
But then at Sanford on the way home, several folks had to pay to check their bags to Missouri. When they said their bags came to FL ok, the employee said they weren’t doing their jobs right. She was walking thru the waiting area checking everyone’s bags.
Although everyone got a carry on sized back pack this year for their birthday. It will make international travel easier. I did use it in June to WDW to break it in. It is very roomy for all the crap that usually goes into my park bag, which I take as my carry on. Since it is so big, it was easy to get stuff in and out on the plane. And it has a laptop sleeve. I was going to link you it but ebags went out of business!! I love its stuff!
My DH that researches the heck out of everything has bought us all various sized Travel Pro bags. They can be pricey but almost always have a sale going on
Briggs & Riley or Tumi are head and shoulders above anything else. They aren’t cheap but remember you get what you pay for. They also have the best warranties. Briggs and Riley is a lifetime warranty. We had a set of Briggs and Riley for over 15 years and just handed them down to our kids. They were heavily used. We take around 6 to 8 international trips a year.
After getting sticker stock from the other recommendations, I went ahead and purchased one of these. I think I used to have one from this brand and liked it, and I liked the look / features of one of the bags I found. Hopefully it will be to my liking when it arrives.
