Just found an interesting Jim Korkis piece that discusses behind the scenes of this photo: WDW Chronicles: Year One - Remembering October 1971 - AllEars.Net
It was taken in August, before the park opened and the people you see stood out in the sun for several hours waiting for the photographer.

Wow!! These are very cool!!
So cool! We had a lot of Disney under our tree, but nothing notable. Just a bunch of Frozen stuff for the girls. 
We got some really cool picture vinyl for the Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin soundtracks. They are pretty awesome. I’ll have to take a picture later when our house isn’t so filthy. Today is all about the cleaning.
