Thinking more about it, the thing that makes me mad is that Disney does everything in its power to get you to commit money to WDW early.
When I went to Disneyland, I bought my ticket the night before and my (off site) hotel room was fully cancelable up to 1 day before check in. I had no reason to commit money sooner and I didn’t, because I didn’t want to risk losing money in case the trip didn’t happen (it was not very likely that it wouldn’t, more of a “just in case” thing).
For WDW, because of FP+ and the rules surrounding it, you have a very strong incentive to commit sooner. Since they created this system, for me the fair thing would be they dealing with its consequences. I am not talking about what is legal or anything like that, pretty sure they are well covered in that aspect. Just about fairness and dealing with the incentives that they created.
