All Star Sports Room Request Guidance

I’m nearing the 30-day mark and getting ready to submit my room request.
Who: DD16 and me
Where: ASSp, Standard 2Qu
When: 7 nights, mid-September with nothing on the WWoS events calendar

Complications:

  • We will have a car and need quick access to parking. I need to drive off-site on 3 of our days. We will also drive to all parks, except MK, at least once on our trip.
  • I need to reduce expose to the flora of central Florida. I have major allergies to the something that grows down there - staying at POR nearly destroyed my usually healthy respiratory system.

Although I like it cool and quiet, we won’t be in our room much, so I’m thinking of requesting a pool/courtyard facing room so I’m not opening our door to the pollen-throwing, leafy beasts. :deciduous_tree: :palm_tree: :leafy_green: :tanabata_tree:
Any cautions or suggestions about this plan:
Focused in on Bldg 9,Flr 2,W-facing rooms 9201-9206

If you booked a standard view room you shouldn’t request a pool view - that’s a bookable, more expensive category.

You would likely be looking more at the other side of that building you’ve placed the red mark on. Facing the parking lot, not the pool

Shoot! When I used the Room Request Feature (current live version, not the testing version) and filtered for Standard 2Qu - it shows those rooms available.

Possibility that I’m incorrect, but I’m 95% sure I’m not

Just had a chance to run through the booking for ASSp and turns out

I’m WRONG!

I wonder if the categories changed for next year or maybe just other all star? But the only two booking categories are standard and preferred

And both offer pool as an option for what the view can include

Request away as you’ve highlighted!

Sorry bout that!

For Pop and AoA this is definitely true. I can’t ever recall anything at All Stars making a distinction. But the layouts are slightly different. So that could be the reason.

The room location will be the least of your worries. Do you use Flonase? I find this is best for extreme allergies along with a healthy daily does of Claritin (or the E.R. allergy med that works best for you).
As far as room request, if this is your biggest concern, I would just add that in your notes. You have allergies and a room location facing the pools areas will lessen contact with allergens.
As far as car placement, I wouldn’t worry about that too much. The difference is maybe a couple of minutes. If you ask for closer to parking you will most likely be in more vegetated areas (i.e. the outskirts of the resorts).

Yep - all the meds. I know mold is a big contributor - Gulfside beach vacations are even worse than Central Florida. On my last trip, I wanted GF beignets and took the boat from DS to POR. As soon as we got out of the lagoon and onto the Sassagoula I was coughing so violently the crew asked if they needed to call for medical assistance. The beignets almost weren’t worth it  This only happens to me in the SE states. I’m fine in my high mountain dessert home and even with my family in the muggy Midwest.

This is a great recommendation - thanks!

Yes. Skip the boats if at all possible.
I have bad allergies. And tree allergens tend to effect me more than floral pollens. Disney (outside of select areas) have HIGH amounts of tree pollens. I’m from the SE and we have many of the same flora/fauna. The areas that have more trees- at home and in WDW- give me the most issues. But I can handle Flower and Garden just fine. Same for our local floral garden places. It’s the trees. And along rivers and secluded areas are where you will find high pollinating trees. Try to avoid that as much as possible.

The preferred rooms at Sports are only in the Surf’s Up and Football sections. So, yes, the room you circled in the Homerun section is definitely a standard room and always has been. That would be a great location since it is near a parking lot, and the walk to the lobby/buses isn’t too terribly far.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Hopefully, last question on this topic - is it better to use the TP room request feature or do it myself? Or, does it not matter at all? Has anyone noticed a pattern re: successful requests?

Would you be calling in? You don’t get to add that level of detail with Disney online. If you are willing to call in the request- if this is even a thing- you may have better luck that way. But TP room request is great too. I feel like Disney will try to meet your request if they can.

I think this is also what’s happening to me. For most of my life, it has only been Timothy grass. About 10 years ago, new allergy testing added Juniper to the short list. I had a brief moment of terror when I thought that meant I couldn’t have gin - crisis averted - but my teetotalling allergist paused just a bit too long to think about it before letting me know no one had ever asked him that before. :joy: :cocktail:
