I have had this happen. Usually because someone else completed their reservation slightly before you completed yours. They win, you lose. Keep checking everyday as people give up reservations all the time up to 2 hours before their reservation.

Were you trying to book for 2 people? Did you try booking for a group of 4? I see availability for 4 in Oct right now, though I didn’t check to see at what times. You could do that, and then when you show up, tell them it’s just 2 of you after all. There likely won’t be a penalty, but the worst that can happen is you pay the no show for 2, but you still get your nostalgic table.

Can confirm no penalty for fewer members of your party arriving vs the reservation.

There is NO penalty for fewer showing up on your reservation than you reserved for a WDW. There are a few Like Hoop De Do that might have a penalty but here you pay in advance.

I can’t believe that trick worked! You all are truly magical. Thank you, @TremDLNut! There were still no times for parties of 2 or 3 on my date, but plenty of options for a party of 4! WE HAVE AN ADR!!! Anyone want to meet us for dinner on Sunday, October 4? 
Thanks for the hack. The fine print says the no-show fee is $10 per person so worst case if they did charge a penalty, it would only be $20.

Glad this worked for you! Disney often does this where they don’t show availability for smaller parties. Kinda annoying. But I have reserved many times using this hack with zero penalties.
