The same El Nino conditions that are creating a calm Atlantic storm season are kicking up massive storms in the Pacific. The damage from Lowell in Kauai is going to be pretty severe. Meanwhile the ripcurrent from Marie is wreaking havoc on California beaches. All the sand is being massively eroded along the coast and I’ve seen videos of waves splashing over rooftops of two-story condos on the shore. Crazy.

I just heard on the news that we have set a new record for latest date for a first hurricane in the Atlantic.Thank you El Nino. The Pacific on the other hand… So far we have had 4 named storms; the Pacific is up to 12 named storms.
The extended effect through Fall and Winter wil be that Soutern CA and the South East can expect to see considerably more precipitation and higher temps than “usual”

I don’t think we have set the record yet, but are almost guaranteed to do so. Here’s a fascinating chart I just saw.
The post-satellite record is tomorrow, 9/11 from 2002 and 2013. The pre-satellite record is 9/12 from 1912.
