I’ve got a 10 year old turning 11 while we’re in WDW. His choice is Typhoon Lagoon followed by dinner at the Round Up Rodeo in HS. Any tips on extra cool birthday stuff? We’re arriving at WDW 3 days before his birthday and plan to have visited MK, AK and Epcot by then.
Is he into any of the Star Wars stuff? Maybe a droid or light saber build. Make sure he wears a Birthday pin. He’ll get a little extra attention from the CMs.
Alas - his father is the only Star Wars enthusiast in the family! He’s looking forward to ‘’cool rides’.
Maybe a sand pail sundae to sing happy birthday (and then share with the whole family)? That would definitely look and feel celebratory.
Don’t forget to pick up birthday button to wear! He’ll get lots of pixie dusting wearing it. For TS, make sure you say or write in the mobile check in that you are celebrating his birthday. He’ll get a special dessert.
How many days are you in the World?
Is he an outgoing type?
I see you’ve mentioned cool rides. One of the kids we brought to Disney wasn’t very outgoing but wound up enjoying the pool activities in the afternoons offered at our resort. Surprised us all.
Resort community halls have activities, sometimes differing among resorts. Tie dying a t-shirt, making a magnet. I think there are small charges, but offered as drop in, rather than set times.
Kids are odd - we were eating at Akershus one year and one 9 yo boy’s mom was totally surprised to discover that he was an immense fan of Aurora. ![]()
Another trip we were in MK by Pinocchio Haus, watching the fireworks which seemed to be going off all around us. Very few guests back there - they were mostly in front of the Castle - so it was like our own intense private show. It was the first really cool thing that a 14 yo with us experienced. ![]()
Possibly the best thing is take lots of breaks, a beverage here, snack there, to allow time to take in what’s going on around. We’ve had two different kids, different trips, be completely amazed at the lizards. One grandson couldn’t get enough of the outdoor shower poolside at Wilderness Lodge. He’d just stand under the shower, letting the water gush onto his head.
It’s interesting to see what resonates with each kid. Often it’s the smaller things that are most memorable.
Happy birthday in advance to DS! That will be so much fun!
