My adult daughter and I are flying into and out of Orlando (MCO) the first week of May 2018 for a mother daughter trip. We will be spending 4 wonderful days in WDW, then would like to spend 3 days outside WDW, but still in the vicinity of the airport, by an hour or so. We will have a rental car. We would love to stay somewhere where we can enjoy nature activities such as hiking, kayaking, swimming, maybe horseback riding, etc. Any tips on places to check out for this time?
Cape Canaveral where Kennedy Space center is is an hour away and next to Cocoa Beach.

Maybe Discovery Cove if you want to swim with dolphins and things like that.

These tips and links are great! Thank you. Looks like Cocoa Beach and the nature features in that area will be good for us to explore. I will never forget my parents taking us to Wichiwachi Springs as children. My sister and I were mesmerized by the mermaids and the giant catfish on the glass bottom boat tour! We loved it!
