WDW Value Resort for Independent Older Teens

I have a work conference at the Orlando Convention Center and the conference hotel is ~$100 more than the All Star Value Resorts and about the same price as AoA. I’m thinking of bringing along my 2 older teens (high school and college age), staying at a WDW Value, and letting them have fun together at the parks during my conference days. Which of these 3 lowest cost options would you suggest? Safety while coming and going on their own is my first priority, but not something that I am overly concerned about. They are smart city kids.

Depending on your teens taste. But I believe that music would be a great choice or maybe the movie all-stars, unless your teens like animation that would be lowest on my list.

Movies if your teens love classic Disney movies. Music if not. AoA wouldn’t be my choice over Pop but they have the Skyliner which could be a very cool thing! But that’s a big difference in price with the All Stars and I’m assuming these are studios… Little Mermaid probably isn’t their vibe.

Weirdly, Pop isn’t available during our trip (mid-September).

They are doing some room renovations. So it may be limited. And sometimes it’s just one day (usually Friday) that messes up the availability.

I find that if you remove the offer from your search, rooms at full rack rate show up as available.

Good call! Thanks for the guidance! So here is an updated price comparison. Is Pop worth an extra $329 and/or is ASMovies worth an extra $245 over ASMusic?

As rooms go, they are are all fairly equivalent. The Skyliner access is the main advantage of Pop…and it is a nice advantage. But a $700 advantage? Probably not.

Personally, I think ASMu is best because of the saved money which could be used to pay for nicer meals or whatever instead. If you want to see ASMo (or even ASS) they are within walking distance of one another.

You’re right! If I remove the Friday night - it becomes eligible for the discounted rate (going from $221/noc to $188/noc).

Personally, I would choose Music, but maybe not with the standard room. Preferred is valuable at Music. Some of those standard rooms are very far from the bus stop and food court. Skyliner is great, but maybe not at that premium, IMO.

Rooms are otherwise comparable at all these resorts, and theming is pretty similar in terms of styling. I don’t feel like there is a difference in terms of safety concerns from one to the next.

Actually - upon further exploration it appears to be Sunday night that is creating the problem at Pop.

Preferred at ASMu is the same price as a standard at Pop. But, I think I’ve read that the Skyliner is shut down frequently during stormy seasons (September), so maybe access to the Skyliner isn’t that much of an upgrade?

The rooms at Pop and the All-Stars are all the same. It is not worth paying a premium for the Movies theming over Music. And I don’t think it’s worth paying a premium for preferred rooms: they’re kids! They can walk.

Pop has the Skyliner but that’s a nightmare during peak periods. The line from Epcot at night is insane. The buses are fine. Or, with the savings, take an Uber.

I’d go for cheapest, period.

Check Priceline, too.

Did you check Sports? They are usually the cheapest. They are all so so close to each other. They can explore any of the others.

If your two teen/young adults are like mine, they won’t care where they stay or if they have to walk to a further room, they’ll just be pumped to be at Disney.

If it’s in the middle of your trip you can call in. Sometimes they will honor the additional day at a discount. No guarantees but I’ve heard of it happening more than not.
I would choose Pop over All Stars for the Skyliner.
But your Music room is standard and Movies is preferred. If you don’t mind the extra walking Music will be just fine. But personally I would pick Movies over Music with kids- even teens. Was Sports available? Teens tend to like sports too.
The Skyliner may be down for thunder, lightning and heavy storms. In September it will most likely be during those afternoon storms.

This was my thinking too until I realized she also has to stay there and is going to be at a conference, which can be really tiring.

Are you driving or taking ride share to the convention center?

The only difference between any of these is that AoA has skyliner.

For kids your kids’ ages, they are equivalent in terms of safety and experience beyond this difference.

:brain:
and that scares me a little

Yes - my comfort is definitely part of the equation! My conference is only 3 days, and conference hotel day-parking is $53 . So, I think I’ll Uber - which means I’m also on the hook for walking the distance to and from my rideshare. My job will cover the hotel costs for 4 nights (for anything under the conference hotel rate of $252).

We’re planning MNSSHP the first night (before my conference begins). For now, I’m booking us for 8 days so that after my conference, I can use the 3-day 3-park ticket deal. Though, to cut costs, I may decide to end the trip after my conference. Our oldest is off to an out-of-$tate college this Fall. :money_with_wings:

With that in mind, I would do All Star Movies preferred room to save yourself a few steps.

Congratulations to your oldest. Hopefully you’ll get some time in the parks too.
