Universal Addict Went Out West! DLR / Knott's / USH - FanFest (Wrap-Up)

I don’t know you, but I’m so proud of you! You prioritized your own well-being which is hard for so many of us. I wish you well and hope you land a new job in a healthy environment.

This means a lot! It was so hard to take that leap with nothing in front of me. However, I can already tell the difference in my outlook!

Thanks for the kind words!!

This is my exact story…

My therapist has told me time & again that this job is THE only thing in my life that does this to me. She’s told me for a while now that I needed a change…

One of the big factors in this change was that I HAVE to go to therapy and take medications in order to be able to go to the job… That’s a big :triangular_flag_on_post: !!

This is so encouraging!! Thank you!!

Thanks! She really is! I don’t know how I got so lucky. I don’t think I would be as good a person without her at my side. She’s often the Jiminy Cricket to my Pinocchio!

I am incredibly grateful for this community!

Hearing others tell me about their situations definitely makes me feel so much better.

I’ve had a few IRL conversations with people today who have told me about their horrible bosses.

It’s a shame we have to go through this.

I would’ve given my entire career to them for another 15 years making their lives better because I’m great at my job. That’s why it didn’t take me more than an hour to do it each day! I had it down to a clockwork schedule.

Now, someone else gets to have my services!

I told DW that I’m much happier that I quit rather than been terminated. I feel like I took myself out of it and not because I was kicked out! It makes a world of difference to me right now.

I really appreciate everyone for helping me through this.

I’m caught up.
And wow

Here I thought the explosion on this thread yesterday was Knott’s related and I’d have time later to read.

Congrats @darkmite2 Here’s to a new job!

Feeling good today. Still feels weird. Can’t stop obsessing over it.

My thoughts today are about all the people I didn’t get to say goodbye to since everyone is working remotely…

There’s also the part that wants to get my side of things to them before he lies about why I left.

I forgot to mention that I left my orthopedic cushion at my desk. It’s not cheap & it’s “mine” so I wanted it back. I went up there and he had thrown it in the trash by my desk!!

The two other people in that temp space are nice ladies. I don’t think they’d do it. I’m pretty sure he got mad and tossed it.

I recorded the entire meeting, along with a video of all my supplies being turned in (laptop, credit card, keys etc…) and my exit from the building in case there were any issues.

There weren’t, of course. I also wanted to show it to my wife so she’d know I didn’t say anything malicious or dumb.

She was soooo proud of me! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Plus, at the time I was so overwhelmed with emotions that I didn’t get to really appreciate the looks of confusion and anger on his face!! This 4 minute video is my new favorite show!!

I have watched the moment he is reading the resignation letter and his face drops 20 times at least!!

Did he think it was weird that you were recording it?

No, I openly record all our meetings. I’ve had to for years. I tell him it’s because I don’t take notes fast enough. In reality, it’s so I can’t play it back when needed.

He was very conscious of it though. He says nothing at all during the meeting. The HR guy is doing all the talking. I did have the camera on HR as that was to whom I was speaking. I wished I’d had it on my boss more!

Now that I’ve watched the video multiple times, here’s the “unemotional / non-adrenaline” actual timeline…

The meeting is to start at 9am. The HR rep. (Chad) is already here. I go out into the hall to start my recording and hype myself up at 8:57am…

When I come in, at 8:59am, they are already seated at a table inside a large storage closet we are supposed to use as a meeting space now. I walk in and my boss says, “We’ll be a moment. I need to talk with Chad.”

I reply, “Well, take these (hands paper resignation to each person) and I’ll come back when you’re ready.”

I watch both of their reactions and get it on film. HR isn’t surprised. Kinda rolls his eyes like, “There goes my day.” :shark:

I go to my folding table and about 1 minute later I’m asked to come in.

I had thought it was my boss saying they didn’t want my two weeks, but it was HR Chad. My boss is just glaring at me. Trying to be stone faced… I’ve known him for 16 years. He was mad!!

I interrupt Chad and explain that, "I thought this might be a possibility. I gave y’all two week notice to do the right thing. However, because this is a temp office I have no personal belongs here. I already have completed my time sheet up to this meeting and submitted it. I can go now if that’s OK.

Chad gives me the ok. I look at my boss, named Logan - BTW, and babble about how I appreciated the 16 years. I wish them all the best. I think the new offices looks great and you’ll do great here.

(The new office doesn’t look great at all to me!! It was a factor in my decision too! It’s all grey / off-white walls with glass. It’s so sterile that it reminds my of every dystopian cubicle farm. The Empire had nicer workstations in the show Andor!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :shark:)

My favorite line is, “This is a chapter I will always look back on…”

I made darn sure not to say “fondly” or anything like that! That was my own private joke in the moment. I knew I was doing it!

In replaying the video I didn’t realize how little he says. After this Chad and I go to my table and I begin to give him my contact info (which he already has on file??)

The only thing Logan says is at this point. He comes out and starts to ask about the company credit card and keys. I cut him off and point right to them already on the table.

That’s when I get, “I guess you thought this through.” and he walks off.

Chad and I document on video that all the supplies & equipment that were issued to me have been turned in for about 20 seconds. Then I leave!!

Company culture is top notch, huh.

Sounds like you handled all of this very well!

I don’t think you mentioned HR/Chad earlier—if you did, I missed it. Smart to bring in HR from the get-go! I’m having fun imagining how the meeting might have gone if it’d been Chad-less.

I’m enjoying the thought of the oh sh&% moment they are going to have when trying to unwind your work processes (even if they only took you 1-2 hours, I’m betting that’s going to amplify for them exponentially) because I would bet they have zero clue what/how to do anything you did.

Fly on the wall!
