This is the way I’ve looked at it. Sort of a charter member designation. I’ve no problem with keeping these grandfathered titles, as they’re part of forum history.

I think it helps. Kind of like a hat, sunglasses, a mustache … one more distinguishing feature among others. Isn’t fool-proof though.

Hi early the only people I could have told you had a title are @OBNurseNH and @JustKeepSmiling, and I don’t remember what @JustKeepSmiling’s is. I didn’t even remember that @PrincipalTinker had one.
I may just be unobservant.

My reaction first is Who is or was Laurel who awarded titles? How did it come about?
As someone who’s been on here for 7 or 8 years I always thought it odd that some people had titles and I did wonder why. It does create a kind of clique that those with titles belong to and the rest of us don’t.
However I must admit I assumed it was a left over from the migration to the Forum from Lines. Now that I know it’s something that was given out to some but not all makes it seem like a favour for friends which is even worse than my wrong assumption.

I can assure you they weren’t given out as favors to friends. Laurel doesn’t know any of us personally. You could ask her at one time to give you one. No one at that time was excluded.

To perhaps offer perspective on this, at the time it seemed to me that titles were given based on a random joke, post, or general helpfulness at the time.
I think I was probably one of the last ones given as some people asked Laurel to give me one after one of my posts.
I assumed that they stopped playing around with titles because they saw it might become a full time job. I don’t see titles as a favor for friends at all, but just something left over from some initial forum playfulness.

If you search the Meta category for “titles” you will find a lot of July 2014 threads.
The beginning of the forum was not a positive time for this community. We lost many members and some long- time members were angry.
I think Titles/Tags were a step towards creating a positive, fun community.
