Thunderstorms

Thunderstorms in the forecast for our entire trip (70-80% every hour, every day). Not rain, but storms. Ugh. There goes the pool! What rides are affected by storms? Any other tips for getting through this with a 10 and 9 year old?

The storms are often short (about 20-30 minutes) and scattered.

You’ll still get pool time.

Some rides will temporarily close for lightning. But everything else is a go.

Many people will leave during the storms. Do not do this. Grab a poncho and stay in the parks. They leave. You win with an less crowded park.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks! Hoping for at least a little sunshine by the pool - and maybe lower crowds if it has to rain. Appreciate the response!

Glad to help!

When we were there, it was showing rain for three days. In actuality, it rained for a couple hours our first afternoon and didn’t rain the next two days. Admittedly, I was on the verge of tears when we arrived to rain, but as mentioned above, many people left, we stuck around, and managed to have a great time. DSs 10, 6 and 3 enjoyed exploring Hogsmeade in the rain. Don’t give up hope!

I remember a trip in June 2005 to WDW and it rained EVERY day all day except for one while we were there. Best vacation ever. We donned our ponchos and went on having an awesome time as lines were shortened and crowds were much thinner.

Oh, and the day it did not rain? Hot as blazes at HS.
