Hmm. I THINK so, but my memory is fuzzy on that one. Trying to picture it.
It all worked out so you are good. When my luggage was sitting at AKL I had the receipt but it could not be tracked because bell service never scanned it. Of course me having the receipt helped them know I was telling the truth but it did not help them find it.
I’m not sure they will transport the children for you, you may have to take them yourselves. ![]()

what if they were all in the same duffle bag?

How heavy are they? A hefty tip might work, if they aren’t all wriggling around. Worth a try I say.

Hahaha! I didn’t realize it sounded like I wanted them to take the kids, but now that you’ve given me the idea…

I’ll have to go bag shopping this weekend ![]()
You’re not crazy
As you can tell from reading through this post, lots of people really like split stays. Your whole family may be in that group. The only thing I’d do if I were in your shoes is talk to Sis and BiL before finalizing any decisions, letting them know of the benefits that offset the drawbacks (namely, the lost time and logistical complication associated with switching hotels). If they seemed really hesitant about changing hotels mid trip, that would factor into my decision.
I hope that I’m not raining on your parade! I do think that there can be real advantages to split stays and know that a lot of people enjoy them.
Not raining on my parade at all. I appreciate all input, it helps for more realistic expectations. ![]()
We do a lot of split stays, sometimes off-site onsite, this last trip was BCV and BRV. I love experiencing different hotels and now the ability to walk to different parks is so great.
Split stay tip with kids: Pack an extra bag (duffle or something that you can smoosh). We travel with our stroller and sometimes a car seat in large travel bags that are empty on the transfer days. When you do the transfer packing, you don’t need to make it nice, just fit it in the gosh darn bags and get it to the next place. Then you can either unpack nice or re-pack to go home. I’ve never felt that we lost much time on the travel day if you are going to a park. I do make sure the bathing suits stay with us.
ONE time (and only one time) I was organized enough to pack one whole suitcase that was only for the 2nd part of the stay and we didn’t even open it at the first hotel. But that was mostly because we had Halloween costumes, I don’t really think it’s feasible all the time.
