The Disney Dish Thread

I get that 100%. I don’t like it but I feel driven to it. There were several other ADRs that took significant work as well. I chalked it up to the shorter booking window & reduced staff but if other people’s hoarding is part of it, I feel more justified.

This is the problem though.
If we all refused to cheat the system, we’d all have a fair shake at what we want
The more people who buy into the idea that they have to cheat to win, the worse it gets

Oh, I don’t think using a leading reservation to get a reservation for yourself that you fully intend to use is on the same ethical plane as hoarding dozens of reservations that may not even get distributed to someone who’ll use them.

I think they are the same. You’re taking what you’re not entitled to and not intending to use. On the one hand it’s dining reservations. On the other it’s a hotel room. In both cases you’re cheating and cutting the line.

You are perhaps a stronger and braver person than me, fighting as you are against the twin currents of circular logic and situational ethics. I fear you may suffer psychic injury.

I am curious- have you used a leading reservation in the past?

I am wondering if you never have, and you have always felt this way. Or if you have, has the example this morning changed how you feel?

I don’t disagree. I don’t hoard & I do think it’s unfair to do so but maybe there’s levels of unfairness. Maybe a leading reservation doesn’t feel as bad to me as holding tons of extra ADRs. But it’s also a slippery slope; start with a leading reservation, then maybe next time just a few extra ADRs just in case, & now I’m off to the races. I don’t know. I probably won’t do it. It’s just frustrating to see other people running passed me on the line so to speak.

I used one one time.

Turns out I needn’t have done it. The ressie I was after was still available when my actual 60+10 days started

Which is good because I still hate that I did it the one time and I won’t do it ever again

Which is why I’m 19 days from travel and still don’t have the only dining reservation that we wanted. But I won’t be part of the problem. I have a short trip, and the ideal night is night 2 of the trip. I should have made a leading reservation to get me that spot, but I won’t do it.

So I stalk the site multiple times a day. If I get it, I’ll get it honestly and by following the rules.

I have always felt it was wrong but I fell into the trap of "everyone else does it and it’s the only way to get what I want " (without regard to whether it means others don’t get what they are rightly entitled to). It left me feeling gross.

But I follow rules. That’s who I am.

I will say the discussion on the show this morning sent my BP sky high.

This.

All along the way justifying it.

I enjoy the challenge! Good luck- you will get it- even if it is at 11pm the night before.

I read your post before you deleted it, and I’ll just say IMO there is nothing wrong with making a few ADRs that are contingency plans. There’s a big difference between that and getting dozens of ADRs with the express intent of trading / bartering / selling them on Facebook.

Hoarding is a different beast altogether

I don’t think anyone needs to defend themselves on this. It’s allowed to happen and legal.

99% of this Liner community is kind, caring, responsible people. But I’m willing to bet half are willing to use a leading reservation at some point, and hold some extra ADR’s. Just like many other topics, we can all respect other’s opinions. I’m saying that because the conversation so far has been respectful, not hateful. :slightly_smiling_face:

Whoops. Forum was acting up for me and I saw like 3 copies of my post so was trying to delete the extras I saw but not the whole thing. Anyway, yes. I’m allowing for some contingency plans with high demand ADRs. I have no flights, resorts (other than the leading), or tickets yet. Still deciding on exact trip length and budget. I figure I’ll at least guarantee the dining I want as I may have to compromise with some of the bigger things by taking too long.

Before I heard the podcast I didn’t want to wade into this territory, because was a little like :eyes:.

Each trip I may have like 1-3 contingency ADRs. But I cancel as soon as I figure my schede out (which is sometimes weeks out).

My family has been known to change their mind about schedule and park days the night before. And sometimes we get to the end of the trip and don’t want to pay the $$ for one last nice meal. So most trips I make one trek down to the front desk to cancel an ADR for the next day.

Having listened to it now, I see that this is not the example they are using, that is hording in the extreme.

But I do question Jim’s supisition thay there are tables going empty. Did I miss reports that there were empty tables? Disney does charge if you are a no show, so I am sure these people cancel at some point. And then those tables would be filled with people making last minute ADRs or walk up.

On this point I am not justifying hording. But I also can’t get upset that people’s livelihoods are being threatened, because it feels like Jim made a leap there.

I think you’re right - reservations get scooped up immediately when they become available. There are not a huge number being left out to dry. Space 220 seems to be leaving empty tables (which there are reports of) for some other reason.

I also was a little confused by the whole hoarding reservations group. What’s the point? They hoard reservations, then try to barter them with their friends, or something, and then they have to cancel the night before. Or are they hoarding them and just not getting charged when they no-show?

All in all, to stop the proliferation of extra reservations being made, I would support a deposit when you make a reservation, as long as it’s refunded when you cancel in 24 hours. But would I think that Disney could actually handle this without me having to spend a lot of time on the phone to get my refund??

Or the prix fixe pay upfront for the hot new restaurants, like Space220. That would make sense, I guess. But I’m not sure I’d actually book it lol.

Only for the really hard to get places. Check the ressies list within 24-36 hrs and it becomes rather expansive. I’ve been loosely tracking that just in prep for my trip in a couple of weeks as I’m still without what I really want and looking to see what is available in that last minute window. It’s a little shocking to see multiple of many locations pop up where there is no availability before that timeframe. Maybe it doesn’t explain the open tables entirely, but it could explain it in part?

Yeah, that’s actually the main reason why I brought up the issue yesterday. That part seemed exaggerated.

I agree. I think that would help stop some of the hoarding. I would not mind paying to hold extra reservations (I have held as many as 3 for CRT while I’m trying to figure out plans). I think it would help separate guests that seriously want the experience from those that have other plans for the reservation.
