Staycation Dining Opinions Please

This is currently our fav restaurant at WDW (former fav was CG pre-prix fixe).

Great breakfast option.

Some people love this place, but I can get grocery store ice cream from … the grocery store.

Perhaps HDDR?

I think Earl of Sandwich and Blaze pizza are overrated but that could be because I can eat at them at places outside of Disney and there are so many good choices at Disney that are unique.

I’m guessing you have a car based on the variety of locations on your list. If so, I might take an afternoon to play putt putt and indulge in my favorite silly food at Disney, which is the pickle corn dog at Boardwalk. I love to enjoy them while enjoying the entertainment on the Boardwalk.

I have a similar dilemma…Saturday of Thanksgiving weeekend - our last night of a 9 night stay.

Trying to find a place that doesn’t break the bank to host some Orlando based family in between doing WAT at AK and trying to catch the new parade at MK. Their passes are blocked so can’t come to parks with us.

we are already hosting them on the Sunday before at raglan road.

I’ve narrowed to GF Cafe, Ale and Compass, Kona Cafe and Steakhouse 71 (although I don’t think my cousins have a ton of energy around steakhouse 71.)

If we weren’t hosting a larger group with park access restrictions, I’d likely choose boathouse, Skippers, or Toledo, but that adds up with a large party.

We really like Kona Cafe for breakfast…but never eaten there for anything else.

Steakhouse 71, our first experience the steaks were inedible. I literally ate two bites and couldn’t eat any more. My wife ate a tad more of hers, but also couldn’t finish it. The sides were amazing. The server refunded me the cost of my meal. But so many people have had good experiences, we keep thinking we should give it another try. We are gun shy about it though, it was just so bad.

The steak at Flying Fish was absolutely incredible by comparison. So I think we would only pick Steakhouse 71 if we ever get to stay at BLT.

I am not renting a car, but rather relying on Disney transportation

The best time for Steakhouse 71 IMO is for lunch. It is one of the few places with a different lunch and dinner menu and everything I have had for lunch has been good. Weird to skip the steaks at a place with that name, but there you have it!

Of those, I have only been to Homecomin’, which I always enjoy but it’s a lot of food…

(We have Blaze pizza locally, so I don’t really count it.)

In case you are looking for other ideas - as you are traveling solo, maybe visits to some of the lounges that also have food (noting my favorites)?

Trader Sam’s, Poly (we put out names down for opening to be ensured all the effects)

Dahlia Lounge or Toledo (harder to do tapas solo), Gran Destino Tower CSR

Steakhouse 71 Lounge, Contemporary - bacon and eggs app

Cape Town Lounge, AKL Jambo - if it serves Jiko apps (it suggests it does, but doesn’t actually list specific items) - giraffe bread, wild boar tenderloin

I have not been to Territory Lounge at WL, but the menu looks intriguing.

For me, I would also find an excuse to ride the Skyliner, probably stopping at Riviera for coffee and snacks (or Topolino’s if you want to splurge).

Some of my favorite non-park things from last year: decorations at AKL, WL, Gran Destino Tower (walk the bridges after dark too), Electrical Water Pageant, Skyliner, monorail, boat to Disney Springs.

Are the Jock Lindsay portions enough for a dinner? We aren’t BIG eaters, but I would hate to leave hungry. Like - I’ve ordered the apps at places like Longhorn and Applebees AS my meal before. Is JL’s in line with that?

What about Trattoria al Forno instead of Beaches & Cream?

It all really depends on how much you eat. I have been there a few times and have only ordered apps, but we are not huge eaters. Most of the time at WDW, my wife and I will get one meal and split it, which is enough for us. The times that we went, we did not make a reservation, and I do not remember seeing that you could.

We’ve never been, but we were considering it for our upcoming trip. Instead, we’re going to try out Rosa Mexicano over in the Dolphin. We’re rather partial to Mexican food, and the reviews we’ve seen from folks makes it seem like our kind of place.

ETA: Worth mentioning we are staying at the Boardwalk.

I don’t think I would ever go here because we have these at home, but it’s very good!

That totally makes sense. I think I’d have to drive to New York or something. Apparently, there once was one in the Detroit area, but it is now listed as “permanently closed”, so…Disney World it is!

My #1 resort dining recommendation/preference is Sanaa. I always book a dinner right at open so I can ask for a window table. We show up a bit early and watch from the viewing area outside, but then we get to watch throughout our whole dinner too. So fun!! And butter chicken. What more could you ask for?!

First come first serve. I went on a Monday in February and we had a group that grew over time and they were very accommodating.

We did it for dinner. Most people just ordered one appetizer or two and no one complained about being hungry. It was a little harder for vegan team member but they had impossible meatballs and he just ordered two of them. I feel like I had a bacon and waffle thing and maybe some sort of dip.

The first one was in DC , so I completely agree! It was one of our favorite places to go as a nicer, but not too dressy meal and my first exposure to nice Mexican. Then I discovered Oyamel (another Jose Andes restaurant like Jaleo) right next door. Oyamel wins but RM is good.
