Staycation Dining Opinions Please

Hello everyone! I am heading to WDW for a 5-day solo “staycation” (no parks) the week of Thanksgiving & was thinking of the following. Any & all opinions & recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Homecomin’ :poultry_leg:

The Boathouse :motor_boat:

Whispering Canyon Cafe (Thanksgiving Day?) (I’m a simple eater turkey day person, so just turkey, mashed potatoes, buttered green beans & gravy) :turkey:

Beaches & Cream :ice_cream:

Enzo’s Hideaway :spaghetti:

Boma (early am breakfast) :cooking:

Chicken Guy :chicken:

Blaze :pizza:

Earl of Sandwich :sandwich:

I’ve only been to Boma from that list, and it’s great choice!

The places I’ve been to on that list:

Homecomin’ - Always great food. Most people go for the friend chicken, but while my family gets that, I’ve gotten other things from there and loved it. (I’m not a huge fried chicken kinda guy.) Two words: Deviled eggs!

Whispering Canyon Cafe - I can’t speak to Turkey dinner there, but our food was decent, but not outstanding. We did, however, enjoy the ambiance. BUT, a word of warning here: if you like the wild, noisy antics, I guess you sit in the main area. We were seated on the “patio” area, where there were no antics. It was very nice out there, with views of the WL lobby/fireplace area.

Chicken Guy - For quick service, can’t really go wrong here.

Earl of Sandwich - Again, nice quick service. Wouldn’t call it outstanding, but great value…and a nice place to grab a few cheaper snack items even if you aren’t eating sandwiches from there.

For other places:

The Polite Pig - Personally, as quick service goes in DS, I prefer TPP over EoS and CG.

House of Blues - Nice, relaxed table service food with some of the best fries I’ve ever had! It is also nice if you are there when they have live music, if you don’t mind the loudness. Being solo, not having to try to converse over the noise could be nice.

Raglan Road - If you like Irish food, OR if you just want to see the Irish dancers and singers, a great time. It is also noisy. I wouldn’t call the food amazing, but definitely good. It is really all about the entertainment.

Not quick the few times I have been here. FYI.

We had a table that could not view the entertainment… so my kids were pretty disappointed.

The few places on my list, not on yours or mentioned (to add to yours):

Capt Cooks @ Poly: Thai Meatballs

Scat Cat @ FQ Beignets & wings (F-N LIVE Jazz)

For Raglan, I always book through open table and add a request for stage seating, they have always honored that request. I actually love the food there.

Thank you for the seating recommendation at WCC!! I don’t mind the antics, but as it will be just me, I may request the “patio” area, as the WL lobby is incredible, especially during the holidays. :evergreen_tree: :moose: :bear:

Beignets at Port Orleans French Quarter is one of the reasons & chose that as my WDW resort!! They are an absolute MUST!!!

If I can add some options, here are a few. I did a team offsite near Disney Springs last year and these were standouts:

  • At Animal Kingdom Lodge, we ate lunch at Sanaa and spent probably 30 min outside just watching the animals. It was magical. It’s a good option if you don’t want to wake up early for breakfast.
  • I really loved the ridiculous food presentation at Jock Lindsay’s Hangar bar. We had a table outside facing the lake and could see the fireworks in the distance.

I’ve only been to Boathouse & Homecomin for brunch. Both were fantastic

I went to Whispering Canyon during breakfast in 2020 shortly after reopening. Antics weren’t happening at that time.

I’ve only door dashed Chicken Guy from a local-ish location. I wasn’t impressed. Not sure if that had to do with being delivery.

Ha! Well, I was using the term “quick service” as a category, not to imply that they necessarily HAVE quick service. (Having said that, we’ve gotten through pretty quickly when we’ve been there. The bigger issue is one of seating availability.)

I know. Should have used my snark dragon. :dragon:

I figured as much…but used the response as a way to mention the lack of enough seating as consideration.

We took ours back to AKL and I will note that I had some for breakfast the following day and they were delish!

We did not care for Beaches and Cream. We thought the food was overpriced and not good.

I think Steakhouse 71 at lunch is many times better, for basically the same prices. If you want something in that area I would go with Ale and Compass.

I also highly recommend Toledo - which is a great chance to see Grand Destino all decorated. It is stunning!

Ahhh, we share a snarkicon! I too have a snark dragon. :dragon:

We love the steak and eggs at Trattoria. The QS at all the MK resorts is very good. I find Epcot resorts QS very lacking!

Forgot all about Jock Lindsay’s! Never been there before. Can you make reservations or is it just first come first serve?

I’ve not been but what about Ale & Compass or Crew’s Cup at the Yacht Club so you can catch the holidays decor over at Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach Club.

Kona Cafe at the Poly maybe. This list is very Disney Springs heavy - all great restaurants but I’d want to check out as many resorts as possible for this type of trip.
