I’m just saying …
Help me understand what you’re sayin LOL
I’ve been right on time with Spirit, and I’ve been delayed 3 hours with Spirit in which we were boarded and had to sit there the entire time while they figured out a door issue. I haven’t flown them since that incident, but they aren’t alone in having issues, as we all know.
My only 2 issues with Spirit is 1)They were charging me when I was switching to cheaper flights (you know one of those times when you keep adding a day to your WDW vacation) but their policy was unlimited free changes at the time. I tried to get my money back via chat and the woman was extremely rude and even questioned why I was making the changes (which is none of her business given their policy is free changes). She kept insisting I must have chosen more expensive flights hence me being charged when I showed her with actual photographic evidence that was not the case. Worst customer service ever. But the lady on the phone was very apologetic, found the bug in the system and returned my money. And 2) The one time I had to wait 45+ min at MCO to drop off our bags and then another 45+ minutes at security and almost missed my flight though I arrived at the airport at the recommended 2 hours early.
Given Spirit fixed the first issue (though it was a hastle but no bigger hassle than what British Airways did to me this summer), and I’ve since bought TSA Precheck and Clear I’m very okay flying them again. I’ve never had bag issues or late flight issues. I’ve had both of those with SWA who’ve lost kid’s bag once (though they did eventually find it) and many many a late flight over the years but to be fair I’ve flown them a lot more. However, with the ability to know I’m not gonna be in a middle seat squashed between two strangers neither of whom will let me have an arm rest, they are actually going in my direction. I hate their seating/boarding policy and ALWAYS pay for Boarding Group A. I even do it for kid when her dad buys her tickets and then forgets to check her in and she gets C. Noone deserves the squashed middle seat. In fact, they should all just remove it and make the other seats bigger! You know who does that and only charges $60-$100+ for it, Spirit! No outrageous business classes prices and you get a nice comfy seat.
*Their spelling mistake is outrageously hilarious though!
This is the thing I think gets lost in the conversation a lot.
This is more of an airport issue than a carrier issue. I’ve seen lines like that for every single carrier at times
It’s true that one has to be okay with how they do it or be okay paying the upcharge.
Say it louder maybe someone will hear you
I’ve almost quit doing that unless it’s a BIG change because you can only apply 2 credits without calling them. It’s annoying because I have like $110 in credits but it is in about 8 different ones. I don’t want to have to call in to make a reservation and deal with that silliness. You should be able to apply them all when booking online. But you can’t.
I’m looking to book flights on SW for our upcoming trip in May and DH has 62k points and I have 43k points. I thought there was a way to transfer points from one account to another. It would make it much easier to only have one confirmation number to check in 24hrs before the flight. Did you know that it costs $5 per 500 points to transfer? It would cost me $430 to move the points from my account to DH’s. WTH? When did they start charging for that?
That they would put out an advertisement/promotion with an obvious spelling error goes along with their reputation of being sketch. And the reason I say I am not brave enough to try them is I tend to have the type of luck that everything they are known to be sketchy for - would happen to me(I feel the same way about medication. Whatever the main side effects are - I will have them.)
I can see them doing what Frontier is reported to do. Deliberately putting people booked at the same time in different areas of the plane, just to ‘encourage’ anyone who isn’t traveling alone to pay to pick a seat. You might think that was just a matter of being assigned seats last, but there are reports of entirely empty rows while this has happened.
One of the articles I read when this was first announced is that when designing methods to load the plane quickly, people doing what people do tends to thwart the plans. For example, there is the plan of loading even row windows first, starting with the back, then odd rows, then middle … That way people can stow their stuff and get settled in before the next batch of people board. BUT, you know what will happen. The biggest person, e.g. Dad in a Mom, Dad, Kid group will board first so that the biggest carry-on can be stored. But then once the family is onboard, everyone will want to shuffle around because the dad being the biggest will want the aisle.
We hate and despise flying. It isn’t fear, just hate being treated like cattle particularly after paying through the nose. But, DD and I have started to go to these annual games conventions that move around the country. Our chauffeur, i.e. DH, isn’t interested so DD and I have started to fly. So, I’ve been paying attention to flying tricks/advice.
I recently had a flight where I really wanted to have lots of luggage. The first part of the trip had been by car and I wanted to get my comforter and pillows home. Frontier had this thing for an extra $115 you got two checked bags with the extra weight allowance, a carry-on bag and an assigned seat in the front two rows where no one was placed in the middle. The fare was $17, the taxes were mid-$30’s and then $115 for the bags/assigned seat. Looking back, I think I could have bought replacement stuff for less than $115.
I’ve seen it anywhere from $50-$250 for those upgrade seats. I feel like now that I’ve sat in them there is no going back on Spirit, lol. So I can never compare pricing without them even though it’s not apples to apples. I do always get early boarding with SW. I didn’t realize the A 1-15 upgrade isn’t much more than early bird pricing. I worry that it will be sold out (since it’s 24 hours in advance if available). But I’ve never seen these boarding positions full. So I think Ill be holding out for that in the future.
Not sure how Ill feell with pick your seat. If I have a seat # I usually want to board last. I’ve never had a problem fitting a carry on or seen anyone have a problem fitting a carry on- even on full flights. We only bring 1 per person though.
There’s a hack for that
To make non transferable points become transferable book a WGA+ flight for each person then cancel it. Have the balance go back to the card and the points will be returned back to the owner as transferable.
ETA: I might be mixing up travel funds and points. Let me check my notes…
ETA2: Yes that is the travel funds hack. The rewards point work around isn’t always exact. Breaking up the flight purchases can help (one ways vs round trip and booking a 2 leg trip seperately). If one is the companion pass and has all the points, they can book a flight for the other and then you go in an add the companion pass to the flight.
Thats a crazy amount of money to transfer points. Some of the cards offer a free transfer. I would also check to see if you qualify for that.
Their IT department is certainly bare bones, and I don’t love their website.
Still, Disney IT is notorious for errors, and I keep coming back
Also I didn’t notice the typo - that’s not what’s important to me I guess LOL
And @TheSafetyLady
My favorite local news station is notorious for typos in the banner at the bottom. We always joke that someone’s nephew needed a job, lol.
More likely it’s the interns from 2 of the local colleges known for their journalism programs. Not sure if that makes it better or worse though…
It can happen with full flights. I’ve seen them make people in C check bags at the gate preemptively
Yes this happens on most airlines from time to time
Personally NBD to me - free checked bag that I have personally seen placed onto my plane reducing the chance of it being lost
agree. My problems arise from the dreaded middle seat!
@drvillarejos may have already addressed this in her comment above. But someone on this forum (and I’m sorry I can’t remember who) told me once how to get around this. She said she books a cheap flight, applies the 2 travel credits, and then cancels. Then her 2 travel credits become one. Lather rinse and repeat until you get it down to only 2 travel credits. I haven’t intentionally tried this myself, but last year I had to rebook our trip a number of times, and it seems to have worked.
I was mixed up. Its the points they are trying to move around. These are trickier. I can’t believe they charge so much. But you can book flights for anyone with your points so I hope there is a work around there.
