Southwest Airlines making more policy changes

Exactly

Which is why when I put on my tin foil hat I find myself wondering if this is what they want people to do

Have you been pretending to be me?

Because if so, I’m outta here - good luck with that triage pool! KTHXBYE

It’s so weird! I’ve never even commented on this post. I saw the notification fly across my screen and I thought I saw the word ā€œarcadeā€ so I’m thinking some actual quote of mine got responded to elsewhere. Off to hunt.

PS: Take a Tylenol and call back Monday!

(finished editing… stoopid interface hit send when I typed too fast.)

I guess I shouldn’t say ā€œmanyā€ circumstances as much as ā€œin someā€ circumstances.

I was curious how this might play out since I haven’t really priced out points much for any rewards program, beyond slight curiosity once in awhile.

Here are 3 different flights from NY to MCO on the same date along with their points and cash costs.

You can see the most inconvenient flight with 2 stops and a freaking NINE hours to arrive is the cheapest - and gives you the best cents per point (cpp) value of 1.46, while the more convenient flights give you lower cpp.

If you were at all worried about having to cancel but had no points stash - the table at right tells you how much equivalent points would cost at the current ā€œ50% offā€ discount.

You can see that for the Basic fare with the better cpp, you’d only be under water by $5 buying points vs just paying cash, while the other ones are a much more significant difference.

I would 150% would spend the extra $5 (or 3% of the cash cost) to insure I didn’t have to worry about expiring flight credits. I am pretty sure I would NOT spend an extra $35, and I would probably stow away rather than pay $68 extra.

In fairness, this is rarely the case IME. I have always been astounded that these kinds of itins are more expensive than non-stop —- like who TF is paying more for that??

Lol, no. But I deleted it. I was going through your recent trip report. I had a question about the power bands, I believe they are called. But I’m only half way through it. I didn’t post it incase it was covered somewhere down in the thread.
In the meantime I posted a comment on the SW thread. When I did, it posted both comments, lol. So I deleted the part that I quoted from you.

Omg at least mystery solved! I was SO curious!

Ask away! We didn’t do as much with the bands as I had planned (because we did so much else) but I would buy them again. And I’m sure we will use them more when we go back.

Ok. What are they and how much do they cost on average? But let’s take the answer to your trip report, lol.

Well in good news, Southwest will begin offering free wifi to Rapid Rewards members starting in October. ā€œNo strings attachedā€.

Jetblue does this which is why Maggie likes flying Jetblue!

Also, I blame you all for my list I made today. I priced out my flights over the Winterbreak - some days are quite expensive. Five airlines, dollars and points for two of them for and 2-3 possible flights a piece. So like 42 different price points!

At least I think I am ready to decide now. Hopefully prices don’t go up.

If you book a basic fare on release day, and then cancel it with 2 months to go, the 6 month expiration snaps so far backwards that it practically expires the moment it’s created.

As long as people are still buying plane tickets and the airplanes are full, they don’t care about the publicity

But that could change. Especially if word gets out that the fares can act as non refundable. That is one of SWs biggest advantages IMO.

And if short term profits get affected, PE firms will do what they always do: charge more…

@JJT , please don’t cringe when I say this… but I use my Disney Visa for most purchases (including groceries). I know it is probably not the most financially beneficial program, but I like seeing those redemption dollars when I am ready to take a trip to WDW. I always apply them to my room reservation.

But now that we are DVC, and I won’t really have a resort bill, I am wondering if I should start using my SW RR Visa more. Sounds like booking with points on SW is going to be the best path forward… for now.

I’ve yet to escape with a zero-dollar folio :squinting_face_with_tongue:

My Disney Visa has not been my primary card for years but it is my longest line of credit so I keep that card. I do always use my rewards points at EP festival booths. Of course, my main card does give me flight points. Is SW your preferred airline?
