….Is a good thing, right?
I would assume that he will, at a minimum, be better than Chapek.
I’m cautiously optimistic! Seems like a decent human being and respects the creatives.
I have some very strong feelings about leadership and at times, I have hoped for more.
I hope he is perfect for this role.
He has been credited with turning around the Experience division from the least profitable to the most profitable Disney division thanks to things like Lightning Lane and other new revenue streams . Looking forward to the ESPN and Disney+ Version of Lightning Lane ![]()
I’m mixed on D’Amaro. I see potential positives and potential negatives with him at the helm. But, I don’t know if I honestly can think of a better option. So I guess I’ll leave it at…we’ll see! ![]()
As long as I’ve been going to the parks, they’ve seen better and worse times. One of the worst times was when the movie division was tanking. As many tentacles as there are, I’m pretty muchly glad to have a bubble to go to when I can.
And, you can’t please everyone
It’s a complex job. I completely understand why they make the big bucks (even if I’m not a big fan of big payouts at the end but that’s a different subject). I hope he does well. Iger couldn’t do if forever.
The new CEO? Who do you think has been running the show for the past three years? He is the guy who made all the changes toward a amazement park. Let’s face it. Many of the loved experience like the Great Movie Ride (The theme of Hollywood Studios), Universe of Energy, and now the Paddle boat, have been taken away. That is and was the magic. I for one hold little hope for the parks under this guy. Yes, they have made more money and are still tapping in for every way to get more out of each guest. Now add alcohol to the mix and the park really changes for the worst. I own stock in this company and I can tell you it has been going down, down, down. Other may want a theme park with the more roller coasters the better, but as a senior, give me back the Magic the was Disney World!
It’s all relative. I don’t love all the IP they use now. But I still love IP. They do have to make money after all. I would LOVE Universe of Energy to come back. That and Maelstrom! But I know that is just nostalgia talking. The 35 and under crowd (Disney’s future) wouldn’t care about that.
MMRR is one of my favorite rides!
GotG is everyone’s favorite ride!
There’s still one in Disneyland, at least.

I think everyone will always disagree when something is shut down. We can only hope that the replacement eventually is accepted as a worthwhile addition to the history of the parks.
I will make one additional comment. Yes Disney has to make money but for the average Joe they have crossed the line. Now they replaced the Great Movie Ride with a kid’s cartoon. Not only that they have changed many scenes in right such as the Alien coming down, the stairs moving in the Haunted mansion, The Red head spill in Pirates. You ever notice that the young don’t get the Magic anyway. That’s because they are so used to a electronic world. Now Disney introduces alcohol into the mix and the Magic people once felt has turned to no respect for follow riders. Ok so now the dream that once was will fade into the past. Let’s see where that gets them. It sure hasn’t shown up in their stock. I have two more trips scheduled do to our annual passses and then that’s it for us old foggies. ![]()
One more thing! I love the fact they are repainting the Cinderella Castle back to it’s original color. They are at least restoring the dream of that bean stock castle in the clouds.
I’m good with the castle color as long as it doesn’t look like a cake!!
The electronic world is not Disney’s fault, but they do need to compete with it. The magic is still there, but different attractions are magical to new generations. I can tell you that my kids live in their phones, but they love the Disney magic. It is a magic filled with the old and the new. They are hooked and when they get older they’ll probably share it with their kids. The magic will still be there, but the park will evolve some more. In my opinion, there will always be old things and new things to love.
I agree that MMRR is a good ride but Pooh in Japan is vastly better and the same track technology but with way more physical sets. Having ridden that I can’t put MMRR even close.
And I loved the Great Movie Ride. It was fantastic. So I think MMRR was a strong addition but I would have rather them updated Great Movie Ride and put MMRR somewhere else. The Great Movie ride was unique and long so worth a wait.
Agree about maelstrom. It was vastly better than frozen and I don’t think frozen is a bad ride nor did I get to ride the longer/better version in Tokyo cuz of delays in opening. So I like frozen but just wish they hadn’t sacrificed maelstrom for it. Frozen def fits better in fantasyland.
Now universe of energy was a solid attraction but needed an update. But. GotG is amazing. So this one I’m not so upset about. But maybe I should be more so with Dinosaur closing cuz now only Universal has dinosaurs!
This is what I think is missing from the Disney parks. They need more “uniqueness”. They can slap different IP on the same ride and, while we love it, it does lose some of the overall magic for me.
But things can’t remain the same. They won’t be successful.
I am hoping that since D’Amaro has been in charge of parks, he will make sure that maintaining and expanding the parks is a big priority under his tenure as CEO. Hopefully he will make sure that Disney continues to produce great movies (for IP that later can be used in the parks).
This is true partly because we change and our memories change and it’s not possible to get back that excitement from first visits, to first rides, etc.
I’m convinced that much of the magic is supplied by each guest.
Be the Magic.
