@Kitty_Ellas_Mom - At this point SF has given up on that park. They are trying to save money by cutting labor. It’s one of the few expenses they can control. It does suck though. SFSL will always be my home park. If it were to close I’d be so upset!
WTF?!?!?! This is the best waterpark in the effin world. I mean they did kind of take away some of that magic when they bought it out. Unless you’re talking about the one in Galveston. That one can go. But New Braunfels is amazing and must have been doing well for that family to continue expanding the way they did. They only reason they sold it was cuz of that unfortunate death of that kid in Kansas park. It wasn’t cuz it was struggling financially until they had to pay those legal fees for another park they owned.
I wouldn’t call it big but they do have a small undercover section. It’s pretty small compared to NB but the one cool thing it has is three different styles of “lazy” river that are all interconnected where you can choose to keep looping on the one you’re on or go into the different style one. One of those is under the cover. But the best one is the one that’s like the tube chutes in NB in the back of the park. I think the one under the cover might be the wave pool like one that is in Blastenhauff in NB (where Master Blaster is). They absolutely should not close that NB park. I mean even the travel channel voted it best water park in the world.

okay selling Schlitterbahn I’m good with. Maybe it’ll go back to a mom and pop operation because when Cedar Fair took over they made it so much more uptight. Like there was this ride that dumped you in the river and you had to walk thru the resort with your tube to get back into the park and they put a security gate back there that now you have to stand in line to get back in which was a giant pain. We used to stay in the resort so could just go straight into the park from back there with our cooler and this last time we had to walk to the front and stand in the huge line with the non-resort guests because that back security entrance wasn’t open for park opening. They also closed some of the best attractions when I was last there and were much more strict. For example, there is this body slide that’s kind of like a huge slip and slide that dumps you into a lazy river. This was unmanned when it was owned by the family so it had no line and you could just jump on it anytime and end up in the lazy river. They turned it into a lifeguard manned attraction you had to wait for and go one at a time and wait till the person was off before starting. I know I know they made it safer but I preferred the more laid back vibe of swim at your own risk ha ha.
Yeah, I totally get that. Both wanting to do it on your own, and their concern.
I forget where we were, one of the water parks in the Dallas area. Daughter and I went down a long slide that was a giant tube with lots of turns and people were on a two-person tube. She was just barely big enough to be allowed. We got dumped and were surrounded by all this fast moving water going all different ways and we were both kinda stuck and kinda not able to stay put. I was very worried for daughter. I grabbed her and put her on my belly and straightened out and we shot super fast to the end. The lifeguard on the bottom was VERY concerned. Daughter was very cheery and thought it was the best water ride ever and wanted to do it exactly the same again. They had to send the lifeguard at the top through the slide to get the tube.
Note, I realize that a huge slip and slide is a totally different thing, I was just reminded of that.
There can be going overboard…but I’m not sure I like the idea of “swim at your own risk” kind of mentality!!!
They didn’t do that for the larger slides. This thing is huge, like really wide and not steep and short and just dumps you in the lazy river. It’s fun but not worth a wait and since it dumps you in a fast moving lazy river there is not really a risk of people landing on each other cuz the current is really fast at the bottom and it pushes you out quick. I know this because I was trying to catch my kid and there was no way I could.

That large slide to the right of the surfing and lazy river in the zoomed out pic with the man slowly going down on his bottom. You used to be able to go down however you wanted like head first, etc but I think they made you go feet first with cedar fair.

Well, I just read a trip rpt that on the most recent Sat all except 2 rides were open. We’ll be going on Sat. And if they actually stay open in the fall (sounds very iffy although they day they’re open) We’ll go some more. Have to go to Kings Dominion for the nighttime Halloween event though.
I wonder if our home park, Canadas Wonderland, will be sold. We keep hearing that it’s doing very well. And it is always very busy. And has crazy long lines. Plus the new coaster, Alpine Fury. Halloween Haunt & Winterfest are still a go, so fingers crossed up here!
@Kitty_Ellas_Mom Is SF Great America what used to be called Wild World? And it had a waterpark? We used to go all the time when I was a kid (I’m showing my age here lol) and lived closer. So many fun memories there!
Yes, it was! It had several names over the years before becoming a SF in 1999. When I have more time I can list them.
It was originally a safari park opened in 1974.
SF Great America is in Illinois, near Chicago, not to be confused with SF America. SF America is what used to be called Adventure World, Wild World, etc.
Also confusing is there is SF Great Adventure, which is in New Jersey.

Eventually, the seven parks are expected to go under the brand of Enchanted Parks but for this year, they will continue with Six Flags branding.
“We understand how meaningful these parks are to the communities they serve and to the guests who have grown up visiting them. Our teams at these locations have created countless memories, and they are an important part of the Six Flags family,” Six Flags posted on its official blog.
“We are confident in the future of these parks under the care of EPR and its operating partners, who have strong experience managing parks of this scale. At the same time, this decision allows Six Flags to invest more deeply in the parks with the greatest opportunity for growth and innovation,” the blog post continued
Will season passholders still be able to visit?
Yes. Six Flags said all season passes and multi-park privileges will continue through the 2026 season.
This sale will leave 34 parks under the Six Flags flagship. The company says that puts them in their best position yet to invest in new rides and attractions, improve infrastructure and invest in new shows at its remaining parks.
