Maybe you’ll remember me. I have only looked in these threads once or twice in the past 2 years. I have a fantastic almost 16 yr old son at home that really enjoyed our trips back in the day, but he swears he doesn’t remember too much. I have TONS of photo proof, tho. I still almost shed a tear when I think about how hard he laughed at Hoop De Doo, he was gasping for air at one point and his stomach hurt the day after. Not really from the show, but one of the servers caught us off guard, and slammed a loaf of cornbread down on our table with a deadpan face, after ever so politely and gently asking us if we’d like more.
The sunshine at 7am.
Shorts, 75 degrees in winter.
Hotel pool.
Donald Duck proving why he is always #1.
Pineapple Floats!
Watching mom literally get scared on not so scary rides, and laughing afterwards.
Pretending money is NO object a few times for a few days.
The sunshine at 7am.
The sunshine.
Feeling your buttmeat lose connection with your seat on a certain elevator.
The sunshine.
Talk me down from this ledge.
I know you won’t.
I think Mousematt called you people a bunch of enablers a few times. I know I’m still a Wallyworld enabler, but I thought we were done. Maybe it’s time to bring our teenager back so he can get a better idea of how it works when we return with his kids down the road someday? Maybe that’s another selling point. Hell, I only need TOT, 3 Pineapple Floats, and a few days of that sun to get value out of plane, hotel, and park tix. Maybe some on prop fried chicken, too. Well, I’d HAVE to try my first Gideons cookie. And Homecomin’. We’d obviously need to do a special tour. And, of course whatever fancy way to skip any line all day long…sigh.
Mom & son trips are so special. It’s sad that we can never get those moments back. What about adding in Universal for something different for part of the trip? Make some new memories and revisit some of the old ones?
Had to laugh at the money is no object part…only place I’d be spending like $10 cnd on an ice cream sandwich. Sometimes twice a day.
I have a 15 year old at home too. Go sit in the sun by the pool all day and close down the parks after dark.
(Realistic questions of whether there’s somewhere else he’d rather travel - obviously just a different Disney park, of course and budget / timing not relevant yet. )
When were you thinking of going? I can think of a lot of enabling I could do with that information…
The only ledge I’m talking you off is the not going ledge.
My youngest son is about the same age and was about 9 when we went. He has very few memories of our trip, mostly vague. The things he does remember vividly are odd, like our server at (what I assume must have been) jiko had a freckle on her eyelid. He just got a job so I’ve told him to start saving. We’ll need to fix that soon.
Welcome baaaack! It’s the land where no one will ever tell you not to take that trip!
And I think you should take your DS16 back! How fun!!! I had a friend take her kids to Disneyland this summer. Her oldest is a senior this year and she raved about their trip and said they had way more fun with their big kids than they did taking them when they were little.
In summary, do it. If my mom being diagnosed with ovarian cancer taught me anything good it’s not to postpone dream trips together if you can take them now!
And to echo @OBNurseNH’s question….where are you gonna stay?!
Well, of course I knew you folks wouldn’t disappoint.
As far as staying somewhere. It would be hard for us not to choose Swan/Dolphin again - Specifically Dolphin. Pools, food, and Hollywood proximity is a nice draw for us.
