Should I be concerned?

This is good news . . .

But still, this thread brings up an interesting question.

I understand your impulse to plan ahead, but honestly I think a cancelled Disney Cruise would be the pretty ideal scenario to get pixie dusted. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

So…like…are we talking Grand Floridian Grand Villa-style pixie dust? Or “just” a Theme-park-view room in the Contemporary? Because, if the latter…I guess I could settle.

I would certainly hope before then!! They should have some buffer time built into the schedule.

No it isn’t. I’m booked on the transatlantic that brings it back to FL and that is the first cruise after dry dock

This is how they always do refurbs of ships and as far as I know they haven’t had any that have issues and don’t sail after dry dock.

Ok mister high roller :money_mouth_face: I guess you should just book that Pop room if you’re only satisfied with the best. :winking_face_with_tongue:

It was hard enough to get folks to very information with regular search, but AI is a whole ‘nother degree of difficulty. I have yet to see an AI search result that didn’t have error(s).

I had ChatGPT tell me it had stayed in OKW before :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

See, ChatGPT is accessible from phones, and people who have phones have stayed at OKW with those phones…

ChatGPT did help me by creating shopping & menus for staying at a studio; I do appreciate that very much. ONe less stressor, but telling me it knew all about OKW b/c it had stayed there was a very entertaining piece  of hilarity

I prefer Gemini. She helps with recipes mostly, lol

Gemini? I don’t not know about this…..

It is Google’s equivalent to ChatGPT and other similar Natural Language Processing (NLP) AIs.

So, the overall issue has been resolved. But today, I’m still facing the same issue of the Disney site showing ZERO availability (other than a single Tower Suite in CSR for $1400+/night) for Dec. 4 through Dec. 7. I tried using Incognito mode, and three separate browsers across two different devices. I’m still getting NOTHING today. Am I the ONLY one experiencing this?

Must be - screen shot above still holds today.

I’ve also never been able to reproduce that issue you have with Spirit and bag charges

I guess I haven’t asked - how many adults are you putting in the room in the search? I have assumed 2 - you and your wife - but maybe that’s the issue?

Yes. Just two adults.

I know you’re all good and sorted now, but if ever is a scenario you find yourself in, and just in case someone ever in the future finds themselves in the same boat (continuation for intended pun), I would keep the following in mind:

  • Disney absolutely wants every single sailing they sell reservations for to sail. Because if they cancel it, they tend to offer some pretty good kickbacks, i.e. 20-50% off a future sailing and completely allow you to re-book or get a refund, no penalties. While they have a fully staffed ship that they’re taking the loss on paying that manpower now without the expected revenue. They don’t like that.
  • The one time that I am aware of with an issue/delay with the dry dock, they gave ample notice. It was actually for the Fantasy’s dry dock this year (that @ThorKat will get to see first-hand on its first sailing back after it finishes). There was a scheduling issue with the yard where the updates were happening so Disney had to cancel sailings they had already started to book and there were a round of disappointed cruisers on the generic (non sailing specific) Disney Cruise FB groups upset that they had booked flights & WDW accomodations around it already that had to be re-arranged or adjusted. But notice was given in January for the changes that impacted October & November sailings. Here is the DCL Blog blurb on the specifics.
  • It does seem like they plan for at least a cruise-worth of buffer time after they finish up the maintenance as they are usually out at sea for a few days before then making it to wherever they will port out of for the first cruise following dry dock, so if there are last minute issues, they may be able to flex into that time to still keep to schedule.
  • The Disney Wish delays for their maiden voyage were extraordinary due to Disney having to take a severe reduction in staff during the Omnicron Covid wave in early 2021. They had so much of the staff out that they could not move. And were still scrambling to make the 6 weeks later adjusted date.

I would side with @Jeff_AZ and see if there is a possibility that Disney does give any pixie dust with the lurch you’d be in on their account. I wouldn’t expect a fully comped stay, but they would be in the best possible position to help set you up for the time in between for anything onsite (and the pixie dust would probably be more along the lines of finding you a spot and charging less than last minute rack rate price unless you’re willing to use the funds from the cancelled cruise to apply to the in between hotel, that’s something they can absolutely do and in that sense it wouldn’t be funds you’d have to come up with out of pocket).

And I would definitely have an off-site property in mind that would have availability and be satisfactory and/or be scoping out Priceline Express Deals and using our JJT’s great tool for that to hone in on what’s generally available for your dates, to be in a good position to get something on a dime, that would be satisfactory in case the worst-case scenario. And then make the most of that time in the parks (but I may even use that time to wander over to UOR unexpectedly and get some of that done while already in Orlando).
