Yes, only one kid this time.
We stopped at Bucceeās in Loxley, AL. He grabbed a pulled pork sandwich - until I showed him the XL brisket sandwich. I donāt usually get pulled pork or brisket if the sauce is already on it because I am picky about sauce. Donāt want my meat slathered in a sauce I might not like. So, I got a steak burrito that was delicious. To my surprise, the brisket and sauce were excellent also. The sauce was smoky, and sweet. I will get that next time. There are at least two more stores along the route.
Do different stores carry additional food items, or are all stores set up the same? I was wondering if the TX stores have more BBQ options- like ribs, or burnt ends, for example.
Iāve only ever seen the same things.
Did it live up to the hype? Was it insanely crowded or not awful.
It definitely lived up to the hype. We were only there about 40 minutes because we were eager to get to our destination after a 13 hour drive. I am looking forward to fully exploring the other stores.
I was overwhelmed by the crowd at first, but realized that while crowded, it was well organized. The lines moved quickly. I forgot to get pics of the thing that impressed me the most. The frozen Coke station. Back home, we have three choices. Coke, cherry, or blue. I typically mix Coke and cherry, but at Bucceeās, I mixed cherry and Dr. Pepper. Best selection of frozen āCokesā ever!!
The math always seems to work in Disneyās favor
Because Disneymath Disneymaths!
Frozen Coke is the best
Yay!
And yes to Coke!
Night four, now day five at MILās and I canāt sleep.
Typical of me when I travel, but am usually in a groove by night four. It could be the sleeping arrangements. She only has twin beds at her house. He is 6ā4, and mentioned last time he was here that he wasnāt sleeping well because his feet were dangling over the foot board. So now, instead of us sleeping in side by side twin beds, heās on an air mattress scrunched up next to my bed.
For context, my MIL moved to AL shortly after DH and I got together 13 years ago. She left her husband in MI and moved to be with her sister and the warm weather. They are still married. - she just up and started a new home front without him. Sounds messy, but they make it work. She says theyāre too old (84) for divorce.
She visits up north more than we visit down south, but DH has been down three times since retiring last June. Early last week, he made the comment that the last few times they spoke, she sounded sad/depressed.
In 2021 she was t-boned by a semi. Crushed every joint on the left side of her body. She was hospitalized three months. Prior to the accident she was spry. Could not sit still. Always on the go and working on a project. Household maintenance, yard work, quilting, traveling, dancing - you get the picture.
DH claims her inability to sit still was the worst for them when growing up because the kids were required to be working on something. If she saw them doing nothing - she put them to work.
The accident changed her. She suffers lingering health problems. Nothing major, but enough to throw her off her square. Tired all the time because she canāt sleep. Canāt sleep because something hurts. Struggles with projects around the house because her hands and wrists lack strength - things like that. We certainly understand why she sounds sad/depressed.
Let me explain why I was available to accompany him on this impromptu trip to AL.
Two weeks after that very cold trip to WDW in January, I booked another trip for May. 24 hours after purchasing airfare, I showed up to my job as normal. By the time I made it home from work that evening, I received a call from my boss. He told me to call my direct reports and let them know that we were not to report to work the following Monday.
Just like that - the company shut its doors and left 2000 employees across the country without a job. No warning. (Which, by the way, is required by law when there are more than 100 employees.)
It was not until Saturday night we received an official notification of a permanent closure. And they basically said - We will let you know next week about your payroll, vacation pay, health insurance, 401k, etc. They effing hosed us!
Yāall! I cannot remember a time in my life where I was treated with such cruelty. And what made it worse - my employees were looking at me for answers, without considering - I lost my job, too!!
Oh this is horrible. I so sorry you have to deal with that
Yikes, thatās rough!
I have trouble on the first night, sometimes two, so I travel with benadryl to help me sleep better at the start
Thatās sad
Holy cow! Iām so sorry to hear that! Thatās just awful
I am so sad to hear this! I hope you are able to find something better soon. Had you been with this company for a long time?
I feel like so many companies are really struggling and shutting downā¦so much uncertainty these days.
Sounds like you might have a case.
I had just entered year three. I worked there five years, left for five years, then returned for three.
Yes. A class action suit was filed for failure to follow the WARN Act.
They canceled our health insurance immediately.Typically, a group plan provides coverage until the end of the month. Then, they told us Cobra wasnāt an option because they were no longer funding the insurance policy. One employee had just returned to work that week after recovering from a heart attack and she had three doctor appointments lined up for the following week.
I could go on and on with the awful way in which things transpired, but you get the drift that it was nightmarush. Aside from being jobless - I am fine. The messages put on my heart from up above says Iām fine. Focus on what I DO have instead of what I DONāT. And something I have these days is time. DH has been great! When he saw me falling into a funk he said - letās go. We took a trip to DC. Something I have wanted to do for years, but never had time because ⦠work.
So, it makes sense that if we are seven hours away from Disney and I have an AP - we go to Disney!
This is crazy! It keeps getting worse the more you write. That poor employee!
This such a good attitude. I try to do this everyday, even though itās hard sometimes.
How did you enjoy DC? We took the girls for the first time in 2023, and they loved it.
And Disneyā¦at least you have the AP in your happy place!
OMG that all doesnāt even sound legal!
Same. I loved it! We stayed near the mall and walked everywhere, except when we hopped in the Metro for fun. I appreciate the heck out of a walkable city. We went to the Holocaust and AA Museum of History and Culture. We also did a tour of the monuments at night. That was bad ass!
Instead of a WH tour, we did the āPeopleās Houseā interactive tour down the street. It was a lot of fun!
