I’m glad you brought it up, though. When I posted, I was ONLY thinking about the checkpoints, but my post was easily read to be more than that. I think the clarification was justified! 
Another consideration I know Disney makes, even when it comes to the Checkpoints, is the “magical experience” aspect. I doubt they see X-ray machines and emptying of pockets as part of that, so they’d rather have the “personal touch” with manual inspections by the “nice security men and women”. But it does slow things down considerably!
