Got this email today about our upcoming trip. Any ideas if this means they are closed parts of each day, or all day, only some days.
Aw man. That stinks
I’d probably assume the details are still being finalized, which is why the email is a bit vague. Hopefully they’ll provide more specific information as your trip gets closer.
If taking the Sassagoula River boats is an important part of your plans, it might be worth checking with the front desk or Guest Services after you arrive. They’ll usually have the latest information on any closures or adjusted operating hours. Fingers crossed it’s only a partial disruption and not a full closure during your stay.
I did not get that email, but we are staying at POR the first 2 nights of our trip at the end of July with the intent being to spend the first day at DS. Wouldn’t a river cruise shutdown impact the Port Orleans resorts also?
Not necessarily, if the part of the river they are doing work on is only after it branches off toward Old Key West.
In any case, we enjoy taking the boats if only for the boat ride itself, and is part of the reason we decided on OKW for this trip. But it isn’t, ultimately, a huge deal. As long as we get to ride the new Soarin’, we’ll be good.. ![]()
In early June, the boat to French Quarter had to stop/wait because of construction along the Sassagoula river. There was only room for one lane of boat traffic. It was near where the river branches off to the left I think.
Every time I see this thread pop up I think it’s about the quick service location at POFQ, which is Sassagoula Floatworks. ![]()

Same
this has been the topic in another forum…. yes, I’m two-timing… well probably 3-6 timing… anyhow: current guests have still been able to use the boats, but I think it’s a good idea to understand that it might be limited due to works.
Okay. This is good to know. Just certain times of day? Do you happen to know if the limited schedule is something they post? Or does it change from day to day? It would be nice to plan accordingly.
For example, one of our non-park days, we were planning to head to POFQ to get beignets. But it wouldn’t make sense for us to bother doing that if the boats wouldn’t be available. We could bus to DS, but then we’d have to walk all the way to the boats…versus taking a boat, getting off, then hopping on another boat.
(The lack of beignets isn’t a huge deal, but we wouldn’t want to get to POFQ, and come back only to find the boats are now not operating back to OKW!!!)
this is a BIG deal to us…. but if you really want them and the boats are not running, then I would grab the first bus to any park and then get on the bus to FQ. Yes, it takes time but, beignets are worth the effort ![]()
