Years ago, the refillable mug supposedly gave you free refills forever, as long as you were staying on Disney property. My wife and I bought the refillable mugs for our honeymoon and kept them for almost 15 years before we finally got rid of them. But we kept them because we thought if we EVER returned to Disney property, we would bring them and get free refills. (That was the deal at the time.)

Of course, since we DID get rid of them, it is no longer an option. But it isn’t clear if they still honor that deal for those who haven’t gotten rid of those old mugs.

I believe they changed to the RAPID FILL program, and those mugs don’t work anymore even if you had them still in your keep.

Some people were buying a single mug, filling it, and dumping it into larger or multiple other cups (gaming the system). Disney caught on, and shut it down. Now, with the RAPID FILL system, if you fill your mug (aka - you buy it during this trip, or get it with the Disney Dining plan), and try to fill it again too soon, it will give you an error message on the soda fountain.

Says something like “YOU MUST WAIT x AMOUNT OF SECONDS TO REFILL THIS MUG”

We stayed a partial stay at CBR, and they had the Coke Freestyle machines. They are my favorite - I wish they had them everywhere.
