Thanks, everyone! We are hoping to book in March, so I still have some time to research.
If you donāt stay within walking distance, check Google Maps for public transit options. Here were my options for this morning:
Choose Disneyland Park.
I think we will most likely end up staying at either Hampton Inn or Hilton on Manchester. Hubs will be making the final booking and it will hinge on breakfast being included. It really is a game changer! lol The Google maps walking directions worried me, but it shows you going south instead of north and the walk ends up being over a mile (!), which N seems like the right/shorter way to go, is that correct?
Also, when you stay offsite, what is the best way to book? Direct through the hotel, or as a package with Disney or Get Away Today? I want to make sure Iām not overlooking anything.
Yes, my son usually gets stuck with the couch or sofa bed, since he is the only boy. Sometimes he prefers leaving the couch folded up and sleeping on it as-is, with sheets of course.
I used Expedia in 2024 and 2026 for my stays at Castle Inn and Suites and Grand Legacy.
If you use expedia, I recommend using the app on the phone instead of the website. It has always been cheaper on the app when I looked.
Iām Gen X
I need the big screen.
(Was bundling with airfare.)
For the DL hotels Iāve always had the best rate booking direct but Iāve also never needed to bundle with airfare (we drive) and we havenāt frequently needed tickets (since we mostly went as pass holders).
But Iāve heard so many good things about getaway today that Iād look there to see what the bundle option is for hotel + tickets. Disney will occasionally have a great bundled price so it doesnāt hurt to check them either. Just know that with most of the bundled package you are paying 30 days out and reducing the flexibility you would have otherwise, to change or cancel within 30 days. Esp with the hotel being able to cancel/change much closer when you book direct. Undercover tourist is another one that can have decent deals.
Iāve gotten my tickets from undercover tourist every trip but one since 2007. I even used them for DCL. They are one of the first places I check for everything.
Oh yeah, good reminder that the cancellation policies are different! We usually donāt book until we have the funds saved.
I saw something that made me thing that GAT had better deals than UT for Disneyland, but I canāt remember what it was. Iāll check ticket deals on both, but I do prefer to book direct with hotels these days. They seem to treat you better at the front desk when you do that. Especially if any issues pop up.
ME TOO. Technically Iām an elderly Millenial (ā84) but I still like buying things on a computer screen most of the time. So much easier to see what youāre doing, not to mention having a real keyboard.
So I thought Iād give an update. After DH checked out the hotel options, we decided to pivot (!) and book an airbnb condo across Walnut at Magic Way, in that area on the other side of all the parking lots. With 2 1/2 teens (youngest will be 12 1/2 at travel time), we decided more space to spread out (plus kitchen and laundry and 2.5 BATHROOMS) was much better for us, and everyone is very capable of walking. If weāre tired at the end of the night we can Uber. There is very little info on any Disneyland forums about airbnbs that Iāve been able to find. We have a couple of more days of sightseeing after our park days, so we will end up staying at the airbnb 6 nights, avoiding having to move hotels again. It seems like it will work well for us and the reviews of the place we got are very good and say the walk is very doable. Any thoughts or advice to share? Has anyone stayed in that area or know someone who has?
My sister has stayed in that area and I have read online reviews and all reports are that it is good. I have stayed in an Airbnb a little further away in Anaheim and it worked great. The longer the stay, the less valuable proximity will be and the more valuable space will be. I think you will be satisfied with the trade-off with 6 nights.
One tip if you are walking ā depending on where your Airbnb is, you would most likely want to walk in on Magic Way and join the walking path from the parking structure that leads to Downtown Disney. (I believe it is possible to get into the structure to take the tram, but that may not save time or steps, honestly.)
I bet if you look up some videos on the walk from the Holiday Inn or Springhill on that side, you would be able to at see most of the path from there. That neighborhood seems quiet and Iāve read that it feels safe.
I donāt have any personal knowledge of staying there but in our brief time driving through that area and once walking near it, itās a very safe and well-kept area so I would have zero concerns about walking it.
I have also heard through the grapevine of people really liking the extra space over proximity in that area and that the walk is very doable.
I absolutely agree with all of this. I did try to find out if there was a way to get into the structure along that path using google street views and saw none. And I also looked as we drove past on our most recent trip I couldnāt see any paths that obviously led to into the structure. We drove to the DLH going that way, on the last day of the trip to eat at Goofyās before starting the drive home. But all my research was based on attempting to shorten the walk if we stayed at a hotel closer to the corner of Ball & Walnut (which we ended up not doing since we do value proximity & just paid the crazy price to be on Harbor across from the pedestrian entrance over there).
our family of 9 booked a rental house in Garden Grove in 2018 and it worked out well. We were a bit south and you are immediately west; we had looked at homes in that area, as well.
We drove to the parking garage (I think it was called Mickey and Friends) and rode the tram to the parks. There was a lot of construction in that area that summer.
We did four park days and three local days. It worked out nicely to have laundry and a kitchen and two bathrooms.
I hope you have a wonderful time.
Thanks @Jeff_AZ and @lolabear_la , that is very reassuring!
Music to my ears! Thatās one thing that bugs me about hotels is the guests who act like theyāre all alone there and are as loud as can be. The late night stomping, shouting down the hall, and door slamming keeps me awake, so I usually wear ear plugs.
@QwertySC I found your posts talking about that! It was helpful. Glad you had a great trip!
I can relate! Iām always searching reviews for the words noise, noisy, and loud
Oops. I didnāt know Iād said that here recently. I canāt keep track of threads.
I did a forum search so I donāt know if it was recent or not. I try not to make a new post if the info is already available in an old thread.
