Do the roaming characters stop for photos and autographs? Or is it just seeing them as they pass by?

They will sometimes. Particularly if you are ready to go and the quick pause to do so doesn’t start a mob crowd. They like to keep moving & flowing around. So if you see a character wandering, waving, interacting but not stopping, get that autograph book out with a pen ready to hand them (they can and will usually sign while walking and talking) and then someone else needs to be ready a few steps ahead to snap the pic which if you are, they may pause for you to get. It’s definitely tricky, but can be a bit fun as long as it’s not a character that is make-or-break for your trip, then it can get frustrating.
Do your kids like Marvel? If so, that alone makes a trip to DLR a no-brainer.
Also, how tall is the 6 year old? Incredicoaster is a great thrill ride but has a 48" height requirement (same as Rock N Roller Coaster for reference).
I think DLR is much better than WDW when it comes to characters. But I’m not a huge fan of standing in long lines for those. I much prefer the pop-up wandering type.
Storytellers at GCH is a great character breakfast/brunch. Chip and Dale, Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto stop at every table.
Yes, they both do!
About 44.5" now. It is unlikely that he gets to 48" by the summer.
Ok, the only other ride he might not be able to do is Indy. That is 46". I think Universal also has a couple rides with 48" requirements.
My 7 year old would be happy to watch all of the Avenger Campus “shows” multiple times per trip. Be sure to set aside some time for that.
