Poll Time! The Star Wars Films

The first 2 weren’t; certainly not ESB. ROTJ Started breaking toward this, though (see: teddy bears.).

The rest could be considered as such.

Oh sorry, should I have said

JJ pretty much did a beat-for-beat remake of the first film and then interspersed most of the heroes from the first film into the movies as well. So if seeing the young force wielder on a desert planet who doesn’t yet know they’re special didn’t do it for you, reuniting with Han & Chewie definitely did.

While I enjoyed that movie hugely - it didn’t exactly break new ground anywhere. It was meant to be a feel good return to the series and it definitely accomplished that.

But in general, I much preferred VIII which moved the needle more taking interesting twists and turns. Not all the choices were perfect mind you (I’m looking at you Holdo Maneuver) but I thought it did a much better job giving us new heroes and an expanding universe. And then of course JJ undid most of that with IX. D’oh!

Yes. I agree with all of that. But it still comes down to the fact that we need to be given characters we care about. Which Lucas failed at with the prequels.

In the prequels, even the moments where we SHOULD have been emotionally impacted, somehow Lucas made it feel…off. Like the death of Anakin’s mother, or when Anakin is taken away from her in Ep. 1. Those were endearing moments that didn’t manage to evoke much emotion! Instead, they felt like plot devices, and little more.

I disagree! I love the characters in the prequels - Padme, Anakin, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Shmi, etc. And even the bad guys! There were moments of clunky dialogue, but there was a lot of really well executed stuff, too. I love when Shmi says goodbye to young Anakin, for instance.

I’ve rewatched the prequels dozens of times and it gets better each time. Maybe some of you need to try that out to see if it works for you, too! :rofl:

Possibly the best single moment in all three films in that regard. And yet…we were watching a similarly played out scene from Downton Abbey, and were bawling our eyes out over it.

Talk about your sadomasochism.

Like I said above though, each of the prequels has a solid movie buried within it. A… “phantom movie”… if you will?

I’ve probably watched the prequels (well the first two) about 10+ times, thanks to having kids who watched them over again. They did NOT get better. :wink:

Actually, our family loves to mock them. We constantly quote this terribly delivered moment:

“Global Ranking” is the aggregate among all users and films on the website (out of 84073 films). The “Your Ranking” column is how it ranks on my personal chart out of the 2981 movies I’ve ranked. The website is Flickchart.com (one of the top 3 websites I spend time on :slight_smile: )

Oh thanks! I didn’t read far enough into the columns! :joy:

Mace Wandu :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

I almost put his name, but then I thought of like four more and I decided to lop it off there (much like Mace’s arm by Palpatine!). :rofl:

I’m liking the look of this. I will bookmark it and sign up for it when I have more time. (I’m barely making time for on here right now without adding another distraction :roll_eyes::laughing:).
It looks like fun.
Thanks for sharing it :smiley::+1:t2:

I’m going to disagree with you on that. The original 3 are very much like comic books. Definitely fits into that 9-15 range.

I liked Qui-Gin and Obi-Wan (ETA & Mace Windu!!). Shmi was fine but no strong feelings either way.

I really disliked Anakin and Padme, which destroyed any chance of me enjoying any of the prequel movies.

Anakin was cute and then he opened his mouth. Padme was far too old for Anakin and there wasn’t any believability in their relationship due to zero on screen chemistry between them.

It would have served the story better to introduce adult Padme to adult Anakin, or have a younger Padme to start with.

I have zero interest in seeing EPI or II again, and as much as I dislike Anakin, I am still am not comfortable watching him swimming in lava and have no plans of ever watching EPIII.

I’m not a SW Films pro, but DS 15 is so he did the poll for me.

What does “very much like comic books” mean?

I’m sad your DS didn’t like 8 or 9, but otherwise he has good taste! :joy:
