My plan would be how DAS operates or did. A hybrid of a hybrid. One ride at a time no expiration time related to current standby time. And can reride anything as much as you want within those parameters. Ymmv.
I like that idea! They would probably have to price it a little higher to avoid impacting standby waits too much. But it would be simple and makes sense.
Honestly that’s personally the biggest bummer about the new DAS “system “ is losing the ability to tour that way. It works so perfectly for us.
My first Other is I really didn’t mind any of them - except the paper FP which was not at all fair to solo guests since we couldn’t have someone run while the rest of us got in line.
My second Other is I wish they would allow you to purchase it in advance like you can hoppers.
I do remember, and I did prefer that volumes over FPP. I do not like the pre-planning required for FPP. I want to be able to change our days.
Absolutely!
I had gotten a second set of bands from a friend on DISboards, and others from my friend’s sister for our party of 10.
Our first day of our 2016 trip we RDed KS at AK and then I sent my fam to do something while I secured three additional rides on the borrowed bands. With no easy way to remember which rides were when, I pulled masking tape and a sharpie out of my diaper bag and did this.
L meant left arm bands and R meant right arm bands.
We had the hardest time remembering our “other” names.
One time we were boarding BTMRR and I yelled out, “left arms!” and I was wrong - we had our FPP linked to the other arm. Which resulted in the lovely CM’s calling out, “Peyton! Peyton. You need to try your other band.”
They were not fooled and
none of my kids are named Peyton!
And we didn’t trust DD3 with a band, so I donned four.
I’m wearing 5 in that photo. I don’t know why.
MaxPass is definitely my favorite if I have to pay for something. I liked the static pricing and buying it as we entered the park. I liked that it included Photo Pass. And it was just easier than FP, FPP and even Genie.
And - I’m sure there are reasons it won’t work… but I do like it best.
Luckily there’s plenty of time to figure it out!
I’m so glad they are doing this now because my trip isn’t until October.
And very thankful for the brave ones going tomorrow just to figure it out for the rest of us.
Same. I did similar to you and had a list of person/color band for each ride. I remember trying to scan into Space and getting the blue and quickly heading off to the side to find the other bands as I had messed up, before the CMs noticed. Sometimes we’d wear them on opposite arms but it seemed less confusing to only have one on. Just had to make sure it was the right one!
it was confusing - but at least it was free…
Disney’s “Skip the line systems” have always been a bit confusing. I’d much prefer going to a UOR/6F type system. If you have the express whatever, just get in line.
But if I had pick a system that Disney has used, I’d go with FP+. The biggest reason: repeatability. I hate the fact that every ride is a one and done with G+. Even if it was only C-ticket and below (or just Tier 2) rides, it would be an improvement.
As you’re aware of, I am not ride centric at all. Since covid I’ve enjoyed 4 Disney trips. Two did have BGs for Cosmic Rewinds. One in 2020 had BGs for Rise of the Resistance but not me. I’ve heard there’s a drop.
Rope drop and crowd calendar still work for ride wait times. And teens in the family rode nearly everything they wanted by watching wait times and being fleet of foot. But they’re more ride centric than me or my sister.
Kinda like going back to old style.
For a while old key to the world cards worked for any FP. I was nailing those all over the US and Canada.
I think I have finally hit that with my 11 and 13 year old. My DS11 was my last early hold out…rope drop this trip is going to be interesting…but Dad off surgery still gets the sympathy vote on this one, they all agreed to it to make mid day breaks happen, so we will see how mush fight I get when it comes to execution, lol
I don’t like the tiers either, but in reality, as long as your in the parks, it will be similar to G+…under G+ you could book 1 premium ride and then wait…with MP, you can book 1, then start using t2 and then start to book more premium MP’s (T1)…in practice, you should be able to book your 2nd premium MP way before you could with G+ if you are there at open. I do get for late arrivals, this is not true and could be a loss of perceived value.
I think you’re forgetting that THIS SYSTEM IS A DISASTER. TOTAL SCAM. RUINED EVERYTHING.
Summary
Was wondering how quick that was coming up!
It may be a harsh reality to accept, but this is the fairest system for all guests. No Genie+, no Multiple Fastpass, no DAS, no VIP Tours (at least the skip the line portion). Replace all this with a no cost Virtual Line system (not to be confused with Virtual Queue).
- Once the park is open you may “step” your party into a line for a selected attraction using MDE.
- MDE displays the estimated earliest time you may tap in at the attraction. The time is dynamically updated (up or down) based upon the flow of the line and is updated on MDE
- Once the estimated earliest time has passed you now have a grace time to tap in or you relinquish your place in line.
- You may step out of the line and relinquish your position using MDE
- You may only stand in one line at a time even across multiple parks
- Once you tap into your selected attraction you may step into another line. You are still responsible to meet the grace time at the next attraction.
- While standing in line you can go any where you wish to and do whatever you want to.
- If Disney dissolves the line due to mechanical failure you join the line at another attraction just as in pre FastPass days.
To @ryan1 's point, Disney would have to restructure all that queue space to give guests a diversion beyond shopping or eating while waiting in line. So, a major cost barrier. Also Disney would have to do significant price adjustments to compensate for quests who are loosing a benefit. So yet another barrier. All in all I don’t expect this to ever be implemented but it does cause one to reflect on what it would take to make things truly fair for all guests.
And in theory, it could generate more income. If guests are not waiting in the line, they are walking around the parks…being mobile in the parks creates opportunities to spend money…food, shopping, games of some sort…could all be in play to generate income from guests vs having them stand in lines for 60%+ of their day at your park.
With the exception of the grace period, this sounds pretty much like the DAS system, or the way it operated before the recent changes.
If they promised to stay together, would you trust leaving them in the park for a couple of hours so you could take a break?
I was 12 and my brother 10 when they dropped us at EPCOT but it was the 80s and things were different then. #genx
I’ve had a hard time refraining…
