I’m coming up with my plan for my May-June 2023 WDW vacation. Tron should be open by then, along with the new (to us) GotG: Cosmic Rewind. So we will want to dedicate a little extra time to MK and EP than usual.
Below is the current breakdown of hours devoted to each park (at least in my current iteration of the plan):
Park
Hours
MK
24
AK
15
HS
17
EP
20
Does this seem like a reasonable breakdown?
Hmmm, how about a poll! Haven’t done one of those in a while …
Please vote in each of the five polls below. Please answer as if you were traveling next summer.
How much of your total park time would you spend at MK relative to the other three WDW parks?
None of my time (0%)
Some of my time (5-10%)
Slightly below average (15-20%)
Equal time (~25%)
Slightly above average (30-45%)
Most of my time (50-95%)
All of my time (100%)

This last overall poll is a check for consistency:
Which two WDW parks would you spend the most time at?
I filled this out how we’d tour with our smaller core group. We know what we like and stick with the favorites.
When traveling with newbies or those who don’t visit much, we generally spend a similar amount of time in each park as we’re showing the parks to the new people.
His kids have seen Disneyland so no, you’re right. We’re taking our kids to WDW for spring break and we’ll give MK the least time (bc they see what might be construed by other people as too much Disneyland).
Interesting - I first voted by just a gut feeling and put MK above average and others average or below. Then I realized that on our last trip, we spent like 5 hours in MK, and more at every other park.
This was a short trip obviously, but the point is that we’ve gone to MK enough to have seen it all and know our favorite things, and to be honest there is just a handful of really must-do rides. We of course love the ambiance but we are fine with spending half a day there. I personally would go back in the evening for a couple of night time rides and fireworks but it doesn’t add up to any more hours than the other parks. I guess it’s pretty equal across all parks with possibly a bit more time spent in Epcot especially now that it has two new rides for us and HS which has multiple high ticket ones.
Tron is opening, so we want to make sure we give ourselves enough time to experience it multiple times.
MK simply has more rides than any other park, so from a completism perspective, we will need more time there to get everything done. Just doing a quick Google search, I came up with this breakdown:
Magic Kingdom – 23 Rides
EPCOT – 9 Rides
Disney’s Hollywood Studios – 9 Rides
Disney’s Animal Kingdom – 9 Rides
So MK starts with a baseline of needing 2x as much time as any other park to complete the rides. Of course, you also have to factor in shows, meals, shopping, browsing, soaking up ambiance, etc. So I think I think just a tad more in MK is justified, even if you like that park least.
I didn’t fit out the first part of the poll because I have teens and adults, so we would pick less time in MK. With your age group, your allocation looks just right.
My situation is a prompt for the poll. Feel free to answer for yourself what you would do! And then in the comments you can elaborate on your own selections or give me advice for my trip.
Staying at BLT and having young kids means MK got the most of our time. It ended up being MK>EP=HS>AK. On adult only trips, it’s EP=HS>MK>AK. I’d like to spend more time at AK though. I’ve never hopped to AK and would love to when the closing time is later.
My answer added up to a little over 100% because the options didn’t quite work for how we plan our trips. We spent pretty close to the same amount of time in each park with a bit more in Epcot because we love to go there to eat. So I picked equal time (25%) for MK, AK and HS with a little more than average at Epcot.
I voted with your kiddos age in mind plus the new rides are at EPC and MK. Depending on trip length I could easily spend 4 days in Epcot and 2 in all the other parks easily. That’d be my ideal trip length but that’s 10 days which is a lot. So I did it based on a 6 day trip with littles. But giving myself two shots at GOTG and two shots at Tron just in case.
*Also DuckTales should be out which will help the kids enjoy my favorite part of WDW, World Showcase.
I feel like this is unfair though because both of these parks are designed to spend more time exploring than riding rides. And that’s just as if not more entertaining. Watching a baby gorilla romp around or the Voices of Liberty literally induce me to tears it’s so beautiful and moving are equally worthwhile if not more worthwhile experiences. Playing the interactive games like DuckTales, I love it as an adult. It’s so rewarding and no freaking lines!
I said basically the same thing up above, but for me personally, the rides are my top priority. I will do the other stuff as well but I have to check off all the boxes.
Oh I get that Liner! LOL. You should see my upcoming DLR plans since I’m solo. I’m doing all the things that my kids wouldn’t let me do. My plan is to catch all the live performances (and there are a lot at DLR especially during Festival of the Holidays…and I mean all like the Bootstrappers and the Pearly Band that I’ve never heard, etc.) plus I have to ride all the rides LOL. I have issues though! hee hee
Here is my color coded spreadsheet for our upcoming trip…just me and my wife. (The mix would look different with kids.)
Gray is Epcot, Red is MK, Green is AK, Blue is HS, purple is UOR, and yellow is DS. Everything else is outside a park.
Gray is the clear winner. MK looks more impressive than it is simply because we are doing the Christmas Party. If not for the party, that time would have likely been allocated to another park or parks.
