Piston Peak National Park (new Cars attraction)

I’m psyched! It looks awesome and I’m very heartened by the amount of water in the concept art.

You make a great point. I am sad about both of these things closing but I don’t think I’ve done either of these over my 16 trips since the 1970’s. We have a trip this year at the end of July into August and I was looking forward to seeing these, so I’m disappointed that they’re closing before then. But the truth is, I probably wouldn’t have visited them if not for the imminent closure looming. I think I was just more concerned about what I see when I’m running by to get on BTMMR than actually not getting to experience those areas. But the concept art does give me hope!

Bingo!

Except for our great-grand-daddy @ScottFL nobody goes over there anymore
(oh and also @Jeff_AZ but only when a rainstorm is incoming at which time he makes it a point to leave the ponchos behind)

I think what I’m saddest about is how it will dramatically change the aesthetics of a large part of Magic Kingdom. A part of MK that has been there since the beginning. Something that colors my memories of all of my trips to MK. And not just trips taking my kids there, but of being there as a kid myself.

That said, I get it and I’m not against it. Progress and all. And the new Cars attraction will surely be a wonderful upgrade.

Very much alright to be sad about this. I remember when DL was taking the Big Thunder Mtn Ranch that had always been a sleepier, quieter part of the park and re-arranging the back of the river to accommodate building GE I felt a lot the same way. So I get it.

The thing that helped me though was that I knew Disney was likely to make a new spot that could still be filled with making new memories with my kids. And since those changes in DL (started in 2016), I’ve had 2 more kids and indeed have made many new memories with them in what is now there in DL & gotten to show them the pictures and re-live the memories that their 2 older siblings had in what existed there before.

It’s interesting to think about just how much roomier the back of Disneyland feels now with the changes! SWGE itself is massive but there are so many open trails and nooks and crannies. In some ways it’s more relaxing than the ranch was.

Absolutely. They preserved the spirit of that peace the ranch had in all of the pathways and I do love the transitions in from regular DL to Batuu because of it. And overall the goats are most definitely happier in their new space. And I think I miss those little goats more than anything else there.

It’s the very best transition from one land to another ever!

We didn’t go to TSI all that often, but we always rode the riverboat. Enjoyed it as a kid, enjoyed it as an adult. I’m sure the new land will be pretty neat, though. This updated info makes me more hopeful than the original concept art.

It makes me feel better to know the Rivers of America / TSI will continue to exist at Disneyland. I was sad with Tower of Terror was changed to GotG at DCA but now I’m glad both versions of the ride exist.

I thought so too. And then I thought, “wait a minute, how does TIana’s fit into that space?”

And now I am kind of bummed about a themeing anomaly even though I am excited about the ride and this artwork…

I wondered if they are going to replicate Luigis. Hopefully it will be a little more creative, but kids rides are tough to innovate on.

All right, I’m looking at the picture and Tiana’s sure looks pretty up there in the top.left. I will just shut of my knowledge of Americam geography and go with general “wilderness adventures”.

I just watched a video by Tom Corley at WDWNT where he talked about how it all matches in a way.

Am I looking at the drawing correctly? Will we be able to get to Big Thunder from either direction?

Quite possibly, yes. Though obviously the concept art could be misrepresenting reality in that regard. It would make sense though if you don’t have a river, you can create a walking path around the Haunted Mansion side of the new land to connect up with BTMRR and eventually to Villains Land.

I read on one blog that FL wil be as if you’re traveling west in the US and New Orleans is a stop. I think it works.

Just use your imagination

I was thinking it would be something like this. I wonder if they are going to retheme the store fronts a bit.

I was looking at the latest rendering in this announcement and it no longer appears there is a kids ride in this land. Maybe an attraction or ranch-themed playground? That’s a bit disappointing. Cost-cutting the land already? Sigh

The question is what exactly goes here? In the original drawing it seemed like it was going to be a ride.

ETA: For reference, the original rendering has this area which looked like potentially a kids ride.

I’ve read somewhere where they describe the queue for this ride as a national parks tanger station. Will find.
