Only 1 hour in MK

Our flight for our June trip changed and we have already purchased our tickets. It looks like our first day we will only have 1 hour (9-close) in the Magic Kingdom. Originally we would have had 6 hours. Oh well- my friends who are first timers to WDW (have done Disneyland) are ready to make the most of it. Kind of a funny mind bending scenario! They don’t need thrill rides. We will be back the next morning for the Keys to the Kingdom tour. We will also have time to do MK later in the week. What would you do for a quick first evening with tickets to burn? I know we will slow stroll out of the park! Thanks for your ideas!

If it were me, I’d do Tea Cups, Dumbo, Barnstormer, Tomorrowland Speedway, Buzz Lightyear (if before the August closure) and then walk into the Space Mountain line right before 10:00 pm. All in the same general area so you won’t waste time walking.

Edit to Add: Depending on the wait time for Space Mountain and your group’s desired attractions, another option would be to go to Space Mountain around 9:30 pm and then get in line for Tron right before 10:00 pm.

It’s possible the park hours could change to be open later, so cross your fingers for that.
I would jump on the People Mover. Wait time should be minimal and the newbies get a bird’s eye like view over Tomorrowland.

Not knowing what the crowd or wait times will be - I would settle for a PhotoPass pic on Main Street and browsing the shops. You could easily eat up 10-15 minutes just making your way to one of the lands depending on the crowd. If you are set on riding something, consider rides in Tomorrowland and Fantasy Land. Those two aren’t covered on the KTTK tour.

Since your friends are WDW newbies but DL regulars, I would do the People Mover, Carousel of Progress and maybe Buzz before getting in line for Tron.

It hits the unique Tomorrowland rides to WDW and you won’t have to fight your way too far through crowds.

Although, having said all that …….

It’s possible the Starlight Parade will have started, so depending what time the evening parade is on at.
a) there might be crowds on Main St
b) maybe just enjoy the parade. I think that would be a fantastic start to the trip.

I’d also watch the fireworks.

I’m getting kind of grumpy over the lack of info about this one

I probably should have checked before posting about the Starlight parade.

Seems like they’ve said “Summer 2025”. I guess June is unlikely.

Nah - I totally think that one day they’re just going to be like “tah dah! It starts tonight!”

And that may be as early as the official start of summer on Memorial day (late May) or as late as the day before the official end of summer on Labor Day in early September

I really like this

Even more so!

I also forgot all about this parade because of the lack of info until my brother mentioned yesterday that his high school band trip in June 2026, they have the option to perform at the night time parade. So it should be running by June 2026

I second this!

If rides are not necessary - there’s another MK day aside from the Tour - I would chose not to ride any.

I’d stroll up Main, marvelling at the height of Cinderella’s Castle.
I’d look for a photo pass photographer who is using the Castle as a backdrop and have them take as many photos as they will. Probably even figure out a few fun poses with my friends.
I’d want to score a table with chairs in view of the Castle, obtain refreshment, and watch the crowds, the Castle, and the evening.
I’d mosey on out of the park when CMs are ushering loafers like me out.

Thanks everybody! I really appreciate all of your perspectives on this. When I ask my husband he just says I’m the one who worked and lived there so I should trust my gut- but it sure is nice to get some ideas other than my own! It’ll be June 20. I was also wondering about the parade but I don’t think it’s going to be a go yet (except maybe when they’re trying to get us to leave for overnight rehearsals  ) I’m wondering if they’re opening the backside of Main Street at that point in the evening to avoid fireworks crowds? A balance of a little Tomorrowland with Main Street will be nice. I worked in Custodial for a few months (in Tomorrowland and Main St) and then in Entertainment way back in 2002, so I know those areas very well! We are celebrating my best friend’s daughter’s high school graduation with a “girl trip” She has a brain that loves details and wants to know how things work, so we thought she’d enjoy the tour, even though she’s never been to WDW. She’s been watching the Imagineering and Behind the Attraction shows to get some perspective. We are excited!

When you say that your flight ‘changed’, do you mean that the airline changed it? If so, you may not have to settle for the flight they defaulted you to. This happened to me once and I called the airline and was able to switch to a different flight for free. I even got a better (more expensive) time than the one I had originally booked.

I’d add a day to the trip so I could use the full ticket and blame the airline when my spouse asks about the extra cost.

If that’s impossible, then it parade + fireworks, if they’re happening in that timeframe. If not, people mover, carousel of progress, space mtn and Tron.

We like MK’s Space Mtn though and don’t find it as jarring as some others.

HEA moves to 10pm as of July 6th.

That would allow for a parade earlier in the evening and one after……,

Maybe.
