OBNurseNH's Secret Star Wars Viewing Thread

8/9

Best. One. Yet.

It probably makes me a horrible “fan” for some insane reason that someone will try to convince me of. But that was f*king BRILLIANT. Had I seen this in the theatre I’d have needed a minute.

Just amazing.

How are they going to conclude this in one last film? (Rhetorical question obvi).

I absolutely loved 8. My DS21 hated it. Oddly the very things that I loved about it are what he hated! To each their own. I haven’t fully decided if I like 8 better than 5 or not. I have to watch it a few more times to decide for sure.

DH nearly didn’t watch 9 because he hated 8 so much.

Episode 8 was great. The fight scene in the red room was epic!!

After episode 8 I was left with the feeling that I don’t care if Kylo goes good or Rey goes bad, I just want them to be a team!!!

I definitely have an opinion there.

Me too! I was go engrossed in the story, that I wasn’t trying to force (giggle at the unintended pun) them to do anything or pre write it in my head like I normally do. I was just enjoying the story as told.

This is the best way to watch Star Wars. The people who end up not liking certain films tend to be the ones who have specific expectations for how the plot should unfold and then those expectations turn out not to be fulfilled. Not to say you shouldn’t have predictions or preferences, but … it’s not our story to tell so at the end of the day we just have to accept what happens.

(P.S. What happened in IX was pretty much exactly what I expected.)

To add to this, I find myself disappointed when it DOES play out how I would write it in my head. Predictions and preferences are fine, but predictable is boring.

That being said, I’m a HUGE fan of the “I didn’t see that coming” storytelling.

Might be why I’m team 7,8,9 more than 1,2,3

I was trying to find your explanation for Rey’s character development, but it might have been on the other thread where we started talking about these. I thought after @OBNurseNH was done, she would enjoy your take on it.

There’s a whole bunch of chatter up top that I purposely avoided to now. I will go back and read the whole thread later after I have finished. Although I may be the last living being on earth not to know how this all goes, I’d rather it that way.

I will say so that it’s on record: I don’t think the light or the dark will win in the end. It’s an eternal struggle - internal and on the galactic scale - that will continue forever.

Ok, I’ll be that “one”. Out of 7/8/9, 8 was my least favorite. There was a bunch of stuff in 8 that I really enjoyed and parts of it were absolutely great. The Canto Bight stuff I did not enjoy. Of course it’s all Star Wars and I’m not going to dog on any of it and will still watch it repeatedly.

I loved 8 because it really tried progress the star wars universe. I wasn’t a huge fan of the red herring mission, but I got that it was trying to show there are other force users than the skywalkers and to show support for the resistance. Again though, they tried to progress the universe and give it life so it could grow beyond the skywalker saga. I guess not everyone was on board with that.

The casino planet is my least favorite part of 8. But there are similar moments even in the originals.

Aaahhhh!!! I am SO happy you liked it. I did have the good fortune of seeing it in the theater and about half way through, I whispered to my husband, “This is f4@$19g awesome!”

I get that in a sense. I wonder how much of it was Rian Johnson just trying to make his own mark on the film. I was glad JJ returned for IX though. I feel like either people love or hate 8. I’m somewhere in the middle. I loved the scenes on Ahch-To and would absolutely love to visit Skellig Michael one day. The ending was great also. I just didn’t dig the Canto Bight scenes at all. It felt like fluff to me.

I finished 8 but haven’t started IX yet (why do I switch between Roman and Arabic numerals). Now I’m watching The Mandalorian and really liking it SO much more than I thought I would.

I think 8 was ok, though probably my least favorite of the sequels. But I didn’t dislike it.

8 gets a lot of hate from many SW fans, particularly because of the way they portrayed Luke. And I do get it, but it didn’t kill the movie for me and him coming back (though in a weird way) kind of saved it. But I can think of a number of other ways I would’ve preferred it to end.
