Offer Submitted! edit: Again!

I have a policy to NOT look at information that might make me regret my choices once those choices are made.

It puts into context a little better why people weren’t taking the OKW extension. At $15 / point today, that seems like a steal! But to them it was like 1/3rd of the value of their points and seemed way far off in 2007. Most people who had points probably thought they’d be out of their contracts or dead by the time their existing contracts expired. Anyway, it sounds like it was a huge mess based on what I’ve read.

Congrats, Jeff! This is a huge step. The financial commitment DVC requires has not been on my radar to this point, but if an accountant thinks it makes financial sense, there must be something to it. I know the type, as my dad is a mostly retired CPA. Excited to see where this takes you. Agree with YOLO, and your kids will only be this age once. Create great memories every chance you get!

No one should follow my investment advice, BUT! The market is really weird right now. Experts are split on whether there will be inflation ahead. Real estate prices in many places are going bonkers. Stocks are high. Cryptos are ridiculous. Day traders and fiddling with random stocks.

So I think a safe thing is actually to buy something you want now rather than wait for inflation or put money in stocks that are already at record highs. I happen to have cash laying around so this seemed like a sensible time to buy. But I wouldn’t recommend going into debt for it or stretching beyond your means.

I still think off site is much better for a budget, and only splurging for Deluxe if and when a family has extra income or means.

We’re on day 24. Were told to expect 30-50. I hope you hear sooner!

It seems ROFR has been dragging lately. I’m on day 20. I’m adjusting my expectations for 30 days now. When I made the offer, I planned for a 21-day wait. Still very happy for the savings.

I hope yours and @RH_TtR’s go quickly. Personally I’m not in a rush - my next points aren’t even coming till March and I’m not even sure what I’ll use them for yet - I might bank them. The only reason I want it to go fast is so I know!

My ROFR took exactly 30 days over Christmas so I am hopeful no one here will need to wait 50 days!

When I was following on Mouseowners it seemed that they did them in batches. So maybe you all will hear at the same time!

When mine went through it was so anticlimactic :sob:.

I just got an email saying “This is a courtesy email to notify you that we need your closing funds.” I had to actually ask directly if Disney was going to interfere.

Hopefully you’ll get something with a bit more fanfare. I mean, it’s a LOT of money you’re plunking down. A little “CONGRATULATIONS!” “WELCOME HOME!” wouldn’t kill nobody.

I made another mistake - I looked at the DisBoards to see what was getting ROFRed. First, here are some contracts that passed:

KellyN1017—$115-$19448-150-SSR-Aug-0/20, 300/21, 150/22- sent 4/10, passed 5/6
tlm345—$120-$26192-200-SSR-Oct-0/20, 320/21, 200/22- sent 4/14, passed 5/7
DVCNewb21—$100-$22817-220-SSR-Feb-0/20, 29/21, 220/22, 220/23- sent 4/9, passed 5/7
KTDoesDisney—$127-$10160-80-SSR-Feb-0/20, 80/21, 80/22- sent 4/9, passed 5/7

Here is everything at SSR that has been taken this month so far:

superlarz—$103-$17151-150-SSR-Sep-0/19, 0/20, 150/21, 150/22- sent 4/20, taken 5/7
Disneyfan5plus1—$107-$16050-150-SSR-Aug-150/20, 300/21, 150/22 - sent 4/2, taken 5/7
gfarb27—$105-$31500-300-SSR-Dec-0/19, 153/20, 300/21, 300/22-seller pay dues- sent 4/18, taken 5/7
Belle53—$104-$17411.50-150-SSR-Oct-120/20, 150/21, 150/22-Int’l seller- sent 4/9, taken 5/7
BeBopaSaurus—$114-$24977-200-SSR-Feb-0/20, 240/21, 200/22, 200/23- sent 4/6, taken 5/8

Most of what was taken was between $100-107/point. But then that last one was $114, which is dangerously close to my offer. But some of the ones that were passed - including the $100/point contract, also Feb use year, similar amount of points, was left alone! Any ideas what gives?

Could it be that Disney took the $114 because it had more 2021 use year points? My contract is stripped for 2021. I looked at some other contracts at other resorts, and some were taken despite being stripped, though not at SSR. Should I read anything into this?

I don’t think you can read anything into it. Usually if an offer is very low, they could take it- but not always. Sometimes they will take a contract and leave one that you would swear was a better contract.

The $100 was stripped, the $114 was loaded, plus was a bigger contract.

That’s a big part of it. But also it just spends what they’re needing. They want a reserve of points but they might also be looking for something specific to fulfil a waitlist.

Don’t try to over-analyse it. Que sera, sera. You can’t change things and you’ll drive yourself crazy. And stop reading ROFR threads!

:crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers: for you.

Are they allowed to split contracts after repurchasing them (i.e., does it go into a big pool they can reallocate to new contracts), or do they have to leave contracts intact?

Agree. No rhyme or reason

Yeah I think they can reallocate as they need to, and also change the use year which is a relatively new feature.

But equally it would be a lot easier I guess to just take an existing contract in ROFR and sell it to someone else.

Evidence suggests they don’t keep a huge supply of points, since until recently (2 years maybe) if you wanted to buy a certain resort with a specific use year you would often need to wait until they found a suitable contract to take back. But if thee is an increased demand for points they will continue to buy points back in ROFR.
