Monorail Pub Crawl- Its 5:00 Somewhere?

Thank you all wise and all knowing Kitteh

I was not wanting to scream at you. But so it shall be

TRVTH

So this may be a little bit of an internet-era thing, but it’s of quite ancient origin.

Roman-empire-era Latin had no “U” character, and “V” was used instead. The reader would know whether or not it represented a vowel sound or a consonant by context, i.e. “trvth” would be a vowel vs “vestal” being a consonant. This found its way into early-20th-century classical architecture, where cornerstones of buildings would use that spelling. One can still see examples of “PVBLIC LIBRARY” to this day.

In fact, if you look at the lower left corner of the Roman scene in Spaceship Earth, you can see inscriptions in the marble, ostensibly representing the Roman law tablets. And you can just about make out “TABLVM I,” “TABLVM II,” et cetera.

So TRVTH is truth so universal, so absolute, so compelling, that the Romans could’ve chiseled it into marble 2000 years ago and it would have lost none of its powar. One owes such eternal words the capitalization they deserve.
