No one has told me why kids would intentionally burn themselves.
Although I can guess it was kinda like how we would thread a safety pin through our skin when I was a kid.
Oh yeah I remember people doing safety pins like piercings?!?! And I’m a little older than you. I don’t remember people intentionally burning themselves on car lighters but knew what that pic was and that accidental burns happened in the way I recall getting my fingers closed in a door or trunk a couple of times and ouch.
I think it might be like Gen Z with the poke tattoos. DD and her friends were doing that and her psychiatrist told me not to make a big deal out of it becuz attention was what they were looking for.
Im thinking it wasn’t intentional at all. It was more of exploring our world.
My sister slammed the minivan sliding door on my thumb once. Definite ouch!
Ok that makes sense! I guess I was too smart to ever burn myself. ![]()

This photo was definitely posted to the right FB group. (I’m not a member of that group, just the algorithm trying to entice me(?))
You’ll get a kick out of this
My boss - Master’s degree in Engineering - told the tale of hanging by his knees as a youngster and then wondering what would happen if he straightened out his legs

I’m traumatized just looking at that!
I’m traumatized just looking at that!
Ouch.
WTH just happened? It kept the draft from my previous post.
I’d like to think I’m a smart person, but I remember when I was about 12, my brother dared me to pick up a hot oven thermometer with my bare hand, and for some reason, I did. ![]()
My thumb and pointer finger had quite the blisters on them. When I saw that picture, my 1st thought was that someone dared him to do that!
That still sounds like too much effort ![]()

I suspect it takes less effort to be an Olympic athlete (in less sexy events) than it takes to attend an Olympics as a spectator
I think you’ve definitely accomplished that.
I remember it, but only because it was on the “Top 10 Best Old Commercials.” ![]()
