May the Force Be With Us: A Family Trip Report Summer 2021

Oh YOUR touring plan.

Perhaps we could give them a different name. You know, so you avoid TM infringement and all

The longer story is that I put the stroller in pram parking while DBIL took the big kids in line. I met up with them but when I reached them I saw that DBIL still had his backpack. So I had him go back and stow it while we waited. Cost us maybe 5 min.

They mustn’t have been that great, nobody hired me to make theirs! :joy:

She’s 2! Take your pick of reasons for that age. Then add humidity, out of routine, crowds, too much stimulation, etc. She’s doing great. Loving all the smiles!

I love the mentioning of all the meltdowns. Not that I want Jeff to have more stress, but it makes everything so much more relatable to every trip I’ve taken with my kids ever. :joy:

I think the biggest problem was she is afraid of loud noises. The dragon outside Gringott’s terrified her. She was also afraid of Minions in the stationary seating and cried the whole time. I should have remembered she couldn’t even make it five minutes into Raya at the theater two months ago! :joy:

So I bought her a Pygmy puff for her patience. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

They weren’t even running the dragon when we were there. I think perhaps to help with flow. People stop and block the entire walkway just to watch it. But anyhow, the dragon remained silent while we were there.

Agree! 2 is hard… and 3 and 4… and so on!

Looks like she’s good at bouncing back!

My view as we wait for Ollivander’s:

She has it mixed up. Being “in line” is when a Liner is supposed to have a meltdown, not during an attraction or viewing the dragon.

So this is day 5. Do we have a resort/rest day coming up soon?

Looks like Sunday :grimacing:

Oof.
My general rule is 3, 4 days max and then a resort day. Otherwise the pressure valve fails and we have DEFCON 1 level meltdowns. All kids are different though.

My kids have meltdowns on rest days as bad as the non rest days. The key is to change things up within the day. An evening at a pool has done wonders, as has a table service lunch. Right now we are at Toothsome! DD2 is asleep in her stroller and thankfully they let us bring it by our table.

DS9 got to do the wand ceremony at Ollivander’s and I can’t emphasize enough how amazing it was. Perfect.

The Magical Menagerie was one of my favorite shops. Lots of cool creatures. We found a pink Pygmy Puff there for DD4, because of course all the girls need the same souvenir! :joy:

Also took a walk down Knockturn alley. It’s very cool and shady (heh) down there, so go when you’re hot.

The one good thing about all the protocols is that we got the Ollivander’s experience to ourselves with a guarantee that one of our kids would get picked (and DS9 was the best choice since he is the Potter fanatic of the family). But it sure is a lot of wasted space and air conditioning!

And … DD7 just lost her tooth … in Toothsome. :joy:
